Israel Kills Married Couple, Wounds One in Southern Lebanon Strike

IDF claims blind man killed was ‘key Hezbollah commander’

An Israeli drone strike on a vehicle in the southern Lebanese town of Zibqin killed a married couple and wounding one other person. Israeli drones also attacked the area near Hermel in eastern Lebanon.

The IDF claimed the slain husband was Hassan Atwi, a man who was blinded in last year’s pager attack, and that he was a “key terrorist from Hezbollah’s air defense unit.” The claimed his activities amounted to a violation of the ceasefire.

The wife, who was driving the vehicle, was identified as Zainab Raslan. The person wounded in the strike was not identified by any of the media reports on the incident, and their condition is unknown.

The Bekaa Valley strikes were reportedly south of Hrabata, near Hermel. Details of what exactly was hit in this case and whether there were any casualties are as yet unknown.

Israel, however, claimed that it hit multiple Hezbollah sites linked to the Radwan Force. Such claims are common, though as usual Israel provided no evidence for the allegation. Israel media unquestioningly reported the official narrative.

Since the November ceasefire “ended” the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, Israel has launched airstrikes on a near daily basis, killing hundreds, including a large number of civilians. IDF troops have also remained in military posts constructed in southern Lebanon, and have insisted they have no intention of withdrawing.
