House Armed Services Committee chair Rep. Buck McKeon (R – CA) and 10 other members of the committee took a one day trip to Guantanamo Bay last week, and are all back to regale us with stories of happy detainees, most being held without charges for the rest of their lives, reading books and enjoying soccer in the pleasant, Caribbean atmosphere.
Rep. Bobby Schilling (R – IL) insisted Guantanamo was “nothing compared to what it tends to get painted here,” and everyone seemed quite comfortable that the staged showing for a Congressional delegation was realistic enough to warrant keeping the facility open, likely forever. Schilling noted “they’re being treated pretty darned well,” which apparently means pretty well for extralegal detainees being held incommunicado for years on end.
Schilling added that he really likes the idea of keeping the facility in Guantanamo Bay, instead of moving it to Thomson, IL, near his district. He says he believes that doing so would encourage terrorists to flock to Thomson.
Rep. McKeon was so enthused that he vowed to keep Guantanamo Bay open at any cost, and that he would use all the powers of his new position to prevent any efforts that might lead to it even theoretically being closed at some point.
American Gulag in the Caribbean atmosphere.
What a jerk!
We have seen how America feels about its Citizens who have been captured as Illegals in Iran and not charged, and they are not happy, and thats just been a year in incarceration, the Iranians have allowed their American Prisoners contact with their family and even let one go when she was sick.
I find it very difficult to believe that American Citizens could even think about Hiking unarmed Apparently in the Mountains of Iraq a war zone no less, where the US Governemnt would have us ALL believe that AlQaeda Sympathisers at least hang out , AND THE US GOVERNMENT NOT THINKING THAT THEY HAD GONE OVER TO THE TERRORIST SIDE. Make your own conclusions!
The Burning Question is why persons who have won their Habeus Courtcases are still not freed, time for Judges to start arresting People for Contempt, Starting with the Secretary of Defence.
How about this: you want it open, you pay for it out of your own pocket.
Not to mention they get better health care than most of the population of the USofA.
In fact, the health care they receive is so good many are blinded for life, suffer collapsed lungs, broken bones and brain injuries thanks to the Immediate Reaction Forces (IRF) that behave worse than the German SS.
It's nice to know there are still ignorant hicks out there who parrot the dumbest propaganda.
Are these people sane?
There should be some form of IQ and Health Tests For Insanity for people aspiring to be Representatives of the American People in the Senate and Congress.
Schilling and McKeon should live with the inmates at Gitmo and enjoy the life.
