With the two sides seemingly on the brink of a new full-scale shooting war, reports are emerging that North Korea has fired artillery “warning shots” within visual range of the Yeonpyeong island that was targeted during their brief clash earlier this week.
The shots come as a US commander toured the island, whose military base was targeted. Both North and South Korea insist the other side fired first in the clash, which came as South Korean warships conducted war games in the disputed region of the Yellow Sea.
The US is said to be planning to participate in a continuation of the war games, in the same region where the clash took place. President Obama has promised to back whatever further attacks are conducted by South Korean President Lee, though so far indications are that the South Korean government is going to limit its reaction to a looser set of Rules of Engagement, eliminating a number of restrictions designed to prevent a major war.
Technically speaking the 60-year-old Korean War never ended, as US officials (most recently President Obama) have slammed calls to sign a permanent peace deal to end the conflict. The two sides have been at a mostly tense ceasefire for the past 57 years, however as tensions rise people increasingly fear that ceasefire may be coming to an end.
Notice that 'friends' like South Korea and Israel can draw us into a war any time they want, because our warmongers in chief have committed us unconditionally to defending them.
This scenario kinda has a World War feel, doesn't it?
But that could never happen, because people are too rational.
*roll eyes*
Kind of reminds me of the insane pledge to Poland that that imbecile Chamberlain made.
Ah yes, a new and splendid little “crisis” on the Korean peninsula. This is just what an over-reaching, imperialistic, and nearly bankrupt Federal government needs to divert the American people's attention away from an economy that is still sinking like the Titanic and a growing police state, led by the TSA, that has declared war on the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. This latest Korean crisis has all the tell-tale trademarks of a CIA-engineered black-flag operation designed to keep the brainwashed citizenry from finally recognizing who their real enemies really are.
we have always been at war with eastasia
We's in trouble now, Suckerfish!
American leaders are psychopaths who get their jollies living on the edge.
In this case, China is involved, a country that can retaliate. The American rooster should not antagonize the Chinese Dragon because the result would be barbecued chicken!
Besides, China owns America anyway although, as a property, it's pretty well stuffed and of little value!

China owns America? Since when did China take control of the Federal Reserve?
100% of the primary debt to the Federal Reserve is owed by U.S. taxpayers. The majority (75%) of the secondary debt in the form of government bonds is owed to the Fed by the U.S. taxpayers as well.
Who owns who again?
Must have been a slow news day because incidents of this sort happen with some regularity; (well, at one time anyway). Artillery is more dramatic than the sporadic small arms fire incidents but it's all the same thing and was expected every 30 – 45 days. There were several incidents when I did the RoK thing in the 80s.
Besides the usual – and frequent – exchanges of small arms fire there have been assassinations, tunnels discovered, kidnappings, commando raids, small unit probes, defectors. I was in the RoK when that US Army pilot got lost (imagine that!) and crossed the DMZ & his chopper got shot up.
There is even the long-rumored crossing of the DMZ by the RoK 3rd ID in the 70s.
I find the urging in the media to Stand To curious. Why such a furor? Does no one remember how restrained Uncle Sam behaved when USS Pueblo was seized? Or when US Army officers were hacked to death with axes in the DMZ (77?)?
77 officers hacked to death sounds like a pretty good start! Why in the world are we in Korea today anyway? Don't we have other concerns? I guess we're losing our ass on something somewhere else, because the powers that be want us to look here.
Hah!! That was 1977, I think.
Why are we there? Beats the hell out of me. I couldn't tell you why I was there other than orders. For the vast majority of GIs it was a year of drinking & whoring which, to a young man with money, oblivious to the damage he is causing, was a macho paradise. When Billy Graham visited, everyone was "flushed" out to the field so Billy wouldn't see the ugly underbelly of American occupation.
Things change, so keep that in mind. It used to be the 2ID guarded one (1) kilometer of the DMZ. The RoKs did the rest. And the 2ID did not have an offensive mission. So far as Uncle Sam goes, it was the USAF & their TACPs who were expected to "go north" with the RoKs.
Damn, you have me recalling yesteryear. Sorry 'bout that.
To me, the 'answer' is clear; Come the hell Home.
Of course Uncle Sap was tied up in Vietnam (another moron move brought to you by the usual cast of villains in Washington) but could you please cite your sources Bob for the axe-hacking in 1977?
