Israeli drones carried out strikes in Quneitra and Daraa, both in southern Syria this morning, causing “material damage” to the military targets. One of the strikes reportedly killed a Syrian army officer.
Israel, as usual, did not comment on this, as the policy is not to comment on attacks initially reported in foreign media. Syria’s state media confirmed the incident.
Israel attacks Syria on a fairly regular basis, and despite nominally being neutral in the ongoing Syrian Civil War, the preponderance of the attacks are against Syrian government and military targets.
Officially, Israel presents the attacks as preventing Iran from establishing a foothold in the neighboring country. Often the attacks, as is true of today’s, have nothing to do with Iran’s presence in Syria.
It is speculated the attacks had something to do with the recent loss of an Israeli surveillance drone over Syrian territory. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights claimed the attack came after the wreckage of the drone was moved to one of the sites attacked.
The slain Syrian officer was described as a lieutenant who was believed to be close to Hezbollah. Despite this, there is no indication that he was the intended target and simply happened to be present at the attacked facility.
Israel, with the support of US, is getting out of hand and we are heading for a larger, potential, conflict.
Let me ask a question: are we assisting Israel in locating these people? If so, it is on us the deaths of the innocents just to take out one person. Case in point is the "heroic" rescue of 4 hostages that led to the deaths of more than 270 innocents, the wounding of more than 700. The vision of the father of who held up the body of his son who was killed during the "heroic" operation has scarred me forever.
