The US confirmed on Wednesday that it had secretly sent Ukraine long-range Army Tactical Missile Systems (ATACMS) last month as part of a $300 million arms package.
The long-range ATACMS can be fired from the HIMARS rocket systems and can hit targets up to 190 miles away, a range that marks a significant escalation in US support for Ukraine. Last year, the US secretly shipped an older cluster bomb variant of the ATACMS that has a range of about 100 miles.
A Biden administration official said Ukraine has already used the longer-range ATACMS twice, including in an attack on a Russian base in Crimea. US-supported attacks on Crimea or the Russian mainland always risk a major escalation from Moscow.
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said a “significant number” of the ATACMS have been sent to Ukraine but wouldn’t specify how many. He said more were on the way as part of a $1 billion arms package that President Biden approved on Wednesday, although the Pentagon didn’t list ATACMS when it announced the weapons shipment.
The $95 billion foreign military aid bill President Biden signed into law on Wednesday included a provision that said Ukraine would be sent long-range ATACMS. In response to that news, the Kremlin reaffirmed its long-stated position that it will take more territory in Ukraine to counteract the long-range NATO missiles.
UA seems to waste their weapons, as fast as they can, at targets which have no strategic value.. Next week, when their arsenal is empty again, they will be begging for more..
The MIC survival is more important than US public needs…!
Once again, how is this a secret if (a) you just spilled the beans, (b) Russia was already aware of these weapons?
…and a bunch were launched at an airfield in Crimea last week…?
… and the chances of Odesa remaining part of Ukraine for longer than 18 months dropped to nearly zero.
They use every weapon available, including white phosphor in Gaza, as long as there is money to be made. If the Russians did that, it would be in the news.
But the voters don’t know, a controlled press is making sure.
The daily press briefings are an endless mantra of the same meaningless word salad.
So if the voters don’t know because a controlled press is making sure they don’t know …
… how do YOU know?
We live in the age of electronics, the computer provides a platform for independent journalists and access to international reports and we still have libraries to get different opinions and expertise. May I ask you, do you trust MSM? I used to read the WP and NYT for years, not anymore. I even canceled the electronic subscriptions. The same is true for European publications, once reputable papers are now propaganda sheets for the ruling class.
“The voters” have access to the same independent journalists and libraries as you do, so how is it that the controlled press prevents them from knowing the things you know?
As for what media I trust, that depends. MSM is fine for getting sportsball scores and so forth. On anything that’s important enough for any government to possibly care to lie about, I consult a mix of sources, including competing MSM (for example, if NYT says one thing, I’m likely to see what Al Jazeera and RT have to say about it) and independent media.
Thomas, you know as well as I do how independent opinions are being blocked and eliminated and how sanitized the MSM reporting is.
Most people struggle to make ends meet, they are focused on their daily concerns and don’t have the time or interests to research the news. I am retired and have the luxury to research the mountains of information mixed with sophisticated propaganda out there
Thomas, to save time, the short cut is DEMOCRACY NOW. Amy and her partners still do a fantastic job, and they are credible as are the guests they interview.
Democracy Now is one of the sources I follow to some degree.
But I don’t buy the “I’m the only one in the know — everyone else is too poor and busy” idea.
Who cares? The Russians couldn’t care less. All these will be found and destroyed in due time, like everything else the Ukrainian morons have – along with another half million dead Ukrainians and another million wounded.
Western strategists have been fixated on the Russian naval base at Sevastopol for decades. But I believe that it has lost its relevance.
Russia will soon have access to the world’s oceans along its northern border due to global warming, and, in my mind, there is considerable question concerning how much value naval power is worth in this day of hypersonic missiles, satellite weapons, and underwater drones. The term “sitting duck” has taken on new meaning.
But the neocon, Zionist types don’t notice it, they are still back in the McCarthy days.
I think you’re right. They might have to find out the hard way.
and we will have to pay for it.
Naval power is still viable, depending on the kind of ships you build. Russia is concentrating on subs and smaller warships, both of which are primarily missile carriers with the latter also having good air defenses. It’s aircraft carriers which are obsolete.
why are you here at anti war when you are a war mongering wanker?
American/NATO/Ukraine wet dream is to destroy Crimean bridge. It is all about PR. Even if they succeed to damage it again, it can’t influence anything. The bridge will be repaired. Crimea is connected to mainland by land corridor.
“Crimea is connected to mainland by land corridor.”
That might be precisely why the Ukrainians would most want to destroy the bridge. If the Russians have two ways of reaching Crimea via ground transport, they’re less likely to be willing to seriously negotiate than if they only have one and want to end the danger of losing that one as well.
There is no danger that the Russians will lose the “land bridge” to Crimea.
The Ukrainian summer offensive of 2023 was Ukraine’s best shot at accomplishing this and it failed utterly, which was no surprise to those who were paying attention to the war.
Ukraine has serious manpower problems which cannot be rectified short of large infusions of Western troops. Ukraine doesn’t have the resources to present any serious threat to Russian control of ground access to Crimea.
Ukraine’s continuation of this war will only see more dead Ukrainians and more destroyed Ukraine. The smart move for Ukraine is to end this war as soon as possible.
The smart move for Ukraine and Russia is to end this war as soon as possible.”
Fixed, no charge.
It’s a matter of who wears out first.
The west just signaled that it’s not worn out yet.
Unless the west wears out and gives up, the Russians won’t be keeping any of Kherson oblast or much of Zaporizhzhia oblast.
Unless Russia wears out and gives up, Ukraine won’t be getting Donetsk or Luhansk back.
Both sides would be better off just agreeing to return to frozen conflict with Donetsk and Luhansk firmly part of the Russian empire and Kherson/Zaporizhzhia firmly part of the US/EU/NATO empire.
“Both sides would be better off just agreeing to return to frozen conflict”
You don’t seem to understand this conflict if you seriously think that is a solution.
A non-neutral Ukraine in NATO or a Ukraine serving as military base for the US/NATO militaries is considered by the Russians as an unacceptable security threat. Their move into Ukraine came after years of signaling this concern to the West and seeing it ignored. You can disagree with the Russians’ understanding of their security interests, but as long as they see it the way they do, your “solution” will be no acceptable solution to them. It will not solve their problem.
The Western Empire (US/NATO/EU) wants to reduce Russia to a severely degraded state so that Russia will not be an obstacle to US global hegemony. Ukraine is the present tool to attack Russia with. Ukraine is a means to this end. The Ukrainian people do not have value in the eyes of the Western Empire. Their deaths mean nothing to the West.
Russia will persevere because it sees this matter in the context of Russian survival. The West will continue until the pain and cost to itself becomes too much to bear. I think the Russians are willing to endure more pain than the West is. The Russians are unlikely to give up. Because Ukraine has allowed itself to be a tool of the West in the West’s project to defeat Russia for the goal of global hegemony Ukraine will simply see itself destroyed and depopulated.
The destruction of Ukraine is not what the Russians wanted, but as long as Ukraine continues to serve as a tool for the West, it will be ground down.
Freeze the conflict? That would be a defeat for Russia. They won’t buy it.
There really aren’t any “solutions” to be had here.
The US/EU/NATO empire has established that it’s capable of perpetually keeping the Russian empire from establishing full control of what used to be Ukraine anywhere outside the Donbas for as long as it feels like doing so, at very minimal expense to itself relative to the expenses of the Russian empire — and even the Donbas isn’t fully under Russian imperial control after more than two years.
The bulk of Ukraine will continue to be a US/EU/NATO satrapy for as long as the US/EU/NATO empire feels like holding on to it. The Russians don’t have to accept that. That’s how it is whether they accept it or not.
Just like the Ukrainians and their imperial masters don’t have to accept Russian control of Crimea; Crimea’s back to being a Russian imperial possession whether anyone else likes it or not.
Can’t happen now with Ukraine having longer range weapons, Russia has little choice other than taking the entire black sea coast and making friends with Moldova..
We also need to keep in mind that austerity politics has dumbed down Americans to the point where they don’t compete well technically anymore.
I believe the Russians are less inclined to negotiate with the US than they have been since the winter of 2021.
I’ve long since ceased to believe that Kiev is ever going to be an acceptable partner in any negotiations, as Kiev is in charge of nothing beyond gathering money.
We are already in Cold War II (Americans are too brainwashed to see it), and I don’t expect to see an end to it short of some kind of tactical nuclear exchange. I do not believe a true nuclear war is likely, as the rich bastards who rule the planet are far too much in love with their wealth.
I also believe that destruction of the bridge will remove all constraint on targeting Ukrainian assets in all categories, using any and all means.
There is no- one for the Russians to negotiate with. Biden is set for “UNCONDITIONAL” SURRENDER, the American way, as long as others pay with their lives and blood. Biden and others have said, funding war is good business, it creates jobs. He really meant it is PROFITABLE.
The USA invented the “unconditional” in Versailles, so American, if I am not mistaken.
That’s quite a stretch. It would make more sense if the land bridge were very narrow. But it is miles wide. The best Ukraine could do would be to destroy the rails, which would be replaced immediately.
2014 Ukraine began menacing Crimea.
“uncle sam told us that we can do whatever we want”
Russia said “i don’t think so” and it took them less than a week to expel Ukraine forces from Crimea.
it is all about uncle sam.
2 years ago Russia invaded Ukraine and they actually stated for the record = “we will never allow NATO missiles to be aimed at Russia from Ukraine”
that is what Russia said before they invaded Ukraine.
everybody says that Russia is the bad-guy but i suggest that uncle sam is the actual bad-guy.
I thought we were using The Boiled Frog strategy on Putin. It turns out, it’s being used on us. Happy nuclear boiling Neocon idiots!
OMG i hate you
Me too. … that’s I hate me–not you.
I dunno, Not Applicable, I think a nuclear explosion probably dissociates water molecules in the body, leaving nothing to “boil”, so “Happy nuclear charring Neocon idiots” is possibly more accurate. In a culinary prep sense.
Now that you explained it, I agree. May their molecules dissociate at they may.
Now Russia is forced to bomb every bridge, highway intersection and railroad in western Ukraine.
And eastern…! Landlockedness is becoming more plausible…!
Soon cometh the “European Union Welfare State of Western Ukraine”.
Or really, given the latest post on The GreyZone by K. Klarenberg, the “European Union Welfare State of Aryan Western Ukraine”.
and kill the last Ukrainian standing.
More targets for Russia to eliminate. The sooner the better!
There is no doubt that Joe Biden seems to think that only a big war, who ever is the ‘enemy’ could save his political skin.
It’s unbelievable.
The man promised diplomacy to settle conflicts when he was elected.
So far, he has done the contrary, lighting up wars all over the place.
I’m not sure how much thinking of any kind Joe Biden does.
Presumably the people who DO think about how to save his political skin have noticed that at the moment he looks to be at 267 of the required 270 electoral votes required to win re-election, and will need to win one of four “toss-up” states to seal the deal, while his main opponent would have to win all four.
The people who DO think, the DNC people, want to save their OWN political skin.
Putin lover getting in US politics 🤣
Don, I can’t understand people like you. You must know of the war crimes being committed in Gaza, all you have to do is watch “Democracy Now”. There is no excuse for you not to know. For me it is heart breaking to see women pressing their dead children wrapped in a white sheet to their hearts, the starving dying children, how can you support that and excuse it, don’t you have a heart, a moral compass
telling you right from wrong? Biden is evil, a man without honor, a man without a heart, he is despicable. The same is true of most politicians with a few exceptions.
It is far too early to assume that any candidate has locked in electoral votes.
As the saying goes, “pay attention to what they do, NOT what they say”. They’re politicians, lying is baked into their DNA.
Eat a d!ck bill, you communist
Lol, Communist? Far from it.
As the saying goes, “pay attention to what they do, NOT what they say”. They’re politicians, lying is baked into their DNA.
Biden is a true red blooded American he likes it big, it must be a big war, he might add China. He will do what it takes to save his political skin. The old deranged man wants to keep his job and all the bennies that come with it, if he lives long enough.
F yeah. Let’s move to North Korea.
F america.
we love America because we don’t even live in America
🤣🤣🤣🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Biden, through his actions re Gaza, has already confirmed himself as a murderer on equal terms with his colleague in TelAviv. His actions re the Israeli pogrom are light years beyond the pale. He deserves to lose support from people who are still human.
Russia troll
Secretly? Duh and Double Duh! https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/ukraine-begins-using-long-range-missiles-secretly-supplied-by-the-us/ar-AA1nB7Sf?ocid=msedgntp&pc=U531&cvid=130c8b470b4d44c69590060900f7c7df&ei=11
Bill, where do you live?
Please dont tell me you live in the land of the free.
We all know life is much better in Iran, North korea, China, and of fcking course, Russia.
No, actually I don’t live in the ‘Land of the Free’. I live in the People’s Republic of Maryland.
Definitely you can get arrested there for expressing your opinion.
Coming to the rest of the United Socialist States of America.
The nation is in the hands of war criminals gone wild.
Are these your new angles?
Your team Russia is a circus and now you have nothing else to provide.
You suck before and you suck even more more now.
Bring some other line.
You trolls just suck.
Extended range US wpns=increased buffer zone; ukraine loses more territory, Russia continues the attack to increase buffer zone.
It must be the water and foul air in DC that causes the neocons to be so stupid.
You forgot..
= russia is collapsing after failing to conquer Ukraine 🤷🏽♂️🤣
And its supporters are desperately posting BS on the internet 🤣
At the bargain-basement cost of $1.7 million per copy, I’m pretty sure the American public is more than willing to give away as many of these missiles as we can churn out. I for one am absolutely positive we’ll be seeing a significant financial return on our investment in the Ukraine just any day now.
Do you have anything to say about the Russian invasion and annexation of Ukraine or do you support Russia?
It is emerging that the Biden Administration criminally sent tens of billions of dollars to Ukraine beyond anything appropriated or authorized, and now are going back to attempt to fix the books retroactively, today called “closing the position”.
It is a crime of corruption, for something between $50 and $100 billion. A crime so massive it ought to lead to indictments and impeachment.
In my book, a coward is someone who sends someone else’s kids to fight his wars. Zelensky is merely Biden’s pimp.
IMO, the president has relinquished all honor.
*****
Did he ever have any?
“secretly”
you couldn’t make this sh*t up could you.
wow I have to put an asterisk in my comment, otherwise my comment will be deleted.
deleted by DISQUS.
meanwhile uncle sam is sending more missiles to the Ukraine in order to perpetuate the BS that is the United States Military Industrial Complex.
i wonder? do those dudes have more money than the oil companies ?
bullet guys vs oil guys
what
“bullet guys vs oil guys” They are the same people, the MIC and the Energy Giants have the same interests which is all about PROFIT and POWER which goes together.
I wonder why Disqus is so inconsistent with their “vulgar” language moderation.
Hey dipshit, Russia could make that shit up and more as that’s all they do daily.
You suck. Get out of your basement.
Dont try to deny your support for Putin when things really start to go bad.
We know you are a putin lover.
You’ll probably disappear like the rest of the trolls here.
Drip drip one more step toward nuclear Armageddon.
Joey Biden doesn’t care; he knows his days are numbered and he will not be around to stand trial as the first Hitler in the new century.
ATACMS are on your faces, you putin Nazis.
Weren’t they all destroyed before they arrived? Haha
Super macho man, Closet gay, Putin sucks.
Love how Russia started a major war by invading and annexing Ukrainian land and now the war finally came home.
Congratulations, Putin and your supporters.
Russia is now a war zone. You asked for it. You got it.
Go home, Russians.
