The EU is planning to sabotage Hungary’s economy if Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban blocks a 50 billion euro aid package to Ukraine at a summit of EU leaders that will happen on Thursday, Financial Times reported on Monday.
The plan that has been outlined by EU officials in a document obtained by FT looks to exploit Hungary’s economic weaknesses, hurt its currency, and scare off investors to hurt “jobs and growth” in the country.
If Orban doesn’t lift his veto of the Ukraine aid, the EU plans to cut off all funding to Hungary. Without that funding, the document says, “financial markets and European and international companies might be less interested in investing in Hungary,” and that could “quickly trigger a further increase of the cost of funding of the public deficit and a drop in the currency.”
An EU diplomat speaking to FT admitted that the plan to pressure Hungary is “blackmail.”
In response to the report, Hungary’s envoy to the EU, Janos Boka, said Budapest doesn’t “give in to pressure” and would continue to negotiate on the issue. “Hungary does not establish a connection between support for Ukraine and access to EU funds, and rejects other parties doing so,” he said.
Hungary has come under heavy criticism from other EU states and the US for its stance on the proxy war in Ukraine. US Ambassador to Hungary David Pressman slammed Orban last week for what he called a “fantasy foreign policy.”
The EU has been trying for months to pass the 50 billion euro aid package that’s meant to be disbursed over four years to fund the Ukrainian government. President Biden is also struggling to get new spending for Ukraine. Kyiv has said Ukrainian government workers could face delays in the payment of their salaries or pensions if the US and the EU do not approve new aid packages soon.
“Allies”.
Came from FT commentary where the top editorial and comments are all slippery slopes to the tune of “if the Donbass falls, the EU is next.” It’s funny, because Hungary is a lot closer to Russia and Ukraine than all these hysterics screaming ” the Russians are coming!” in western Europe and they don’t seem to be very worried… Good on Orban, hope he doesn’t budge.
Belonging to a group of extortionists, in retrospect, makes Yanukovych look like the one with better judgement after all.
Umm, Russia have for decades made threats about invading its neighbors and correct me if I’m wrong but Russia has already invaded Georgia and annexed their land, invaded and annexed Crimea, and invaded and annexed Ukraine. I think they are still trying to take as much land as possible from Ukraine and continue talking about pushing West once they finish in Ukraine.
You can deny that, but it’s the reality on the ground and given Russia’s actions, no one is going to be caught unprepared.
Orban is just a dictator lover, trying everything he can to stay in power, including help from the Kremlin.
Russia smacked Georgia around a little after Georgian troops got frisky trying to seize Abkhazia and South Ossetia, but it didn’t annex any Georgian territory.
You do realize the list would be 3x as long if you were talking about the US, right?
He probably does realize, but being a ardent neocon fascist he probably has a long list of reasons why those wars of aggression were ok, but this one is not.
So very f*cked. Really. So much for the sovereignty of nations to make their own decisions. The EU/NATO is so bankrupt, it is amazing that it does not sink of its own weight.
EU/NATO is so bankrupt?
Usual dumbass statements from you.
Yes quite amazing, Given that what EU is threatening Hungary with is withholding parts of the advantages of EU membership – and here you are amazed at the idea that nations do not just leave it (as in letting it sink by its own weight).
As for NATO sinking under its own weight – the only countries that have more people with a negative NATO views than positive are Greece and Turkey.

“EU officials…..to exploit Hungary’s economic weaknesses, hurt its currency, and scare off investors to hurt “jobs and growth” in the country.”
Well, is this what it feels like to join a union? To be bullied and put in the poor house because you don’t agree to carry a debt for a country that doesn’t give a 2 cents worth of crap about the rest?
Such a right-wing D-Bag.
At least he’s not a left wing authoritarian pro war neocon shit stain.
Oh, man. You really got me with that one.
I mean I am just adopting your modus operandi so the same can be said of the majority of your vapid comments on this website. In other words get bent you fascist bottom feeder. Go jump in a lake. Ideally a lake in Florida.
Yeah. I’m more creative but you keep trying.
Cool story thunder run. Say what is a thunder run exactly?
I’m sure you know how to use the interwebs.
Putin fluffer saying present as always.
Dude, you are ridiculous. Please stop claiming you are American, it doesn’t help your narrative at all.
Neocon scum like yourself are not Americans, you are a cancer. Hopefully the American body politic can excise this cancer soon. Otherwise it looks as if the case will be terminal. Neocons need to be relegated to the dustbin of history where they belong. They should be barred from ever holding public office again. Much like the Confederates after the Civil War.
That’s your fascist Kremlin talking.
Sticking to your Kremlin scripts.
Fluffer.
So the Kremlin wants the USA to get rid of the biggest driver of it’s decline as a global power? I guess a useful idiot like yourself would buy that line.
I’m sure you and your Putin-loving MAGA friends are a lot closer to the losers of the Civil War than me and Donnie J.
Didn’t vote for Trump and won’t this time either, but you keep telling yourself fantasies that help you feel better about yourself you fascist scum.
Shut up, you vote for Putin.
Fcking liar.
I didn’t vote for your boyfriend. I bet you have a secret shrine to him in your closet.
Gotta be about Putin. I think he has a poster on the ceiling in his bedroom with a jar of lubricant nearby.
He’s definitely hot about Putin. I bet this is the poster he has:
https://www.gannett-cdn.com/-mm-/60dd16e316f6ecd485f5645dcbe6e64772df4d1f/c=0-528-2694-2050/local/-/media/2018/01/19/USATODAY/USATODAY/636519466080388765-AP-RUSSIA-ORTHODOX-EPIPHANY-96695705.JPG?width=3200&height=1680&fit=crop
Yeah. You’re a JFK Jr supporter and denier of all that makes sense. You’re a “Libertarian” (which is shorthand for frustrated right-winger). You may not be a Trump supporter but you believe all that MAGA BS.
I thought JFK, Jr. died in a plane crash decades ago. I am supporting RFK, Jr. this election cycle that is true, but that does not make me a libertarian. Please enlighten me as to what “all that MAGA BS” is that I supposedly believe.
Yes. RFK Jr and his vaccine denial, mask eschewing, asinine world view. But if a thug-lover. Strongman, fascist types.
Self-described “Alpha Males”. Hahaha. Actually small people with small manhood types. Close?
Wow RFK, Jr. really triggered you. The above is so incoherent I’m not even sure how to respond. How about this:

“ There is uncertainty about the effects of face masks. The low to moderate certainty of evidence means our confidence in the effect estimate is limited, and that the true effect may be different from the observed estimate of the effect.”
Read the whole thing, my friend.
https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6937a6.htm
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9537923/
BTW, how many people contracted polio last year? Yeah, you definitely are one of those a**holes.
Meaning there is no good evidence that facemasks do anything to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses. I get it you are not very smart so you scanned the document for some snippet you could post to try and save face. Here is the lead author on what his review says:
https://archive.ph/aYLJA
The two studies you linked to are low quality studies, i.e. non randomized and not placebo controlled. The first concludes that because there was a decrease in laboratory confirmed cases of influenza it must be associated with covid 19 mitigation measures. They provide no evidence for this assertion and don’t examine any alternative hypotheses. In other words it’s a shit study. But that’s to be expected when something is published in MMWR. The second link is not even a study but a “heads up” for an upcoming publication. There is no data availability and no methods section which details with how their mathematical model works. This doesn’t even qualify as a shit study; it’s worse than that. You seem to excel at putting your rank ignorance and stupidity on display for all to see.
“Yeah, you definitely are one of those a**holes.”
You seem to be striking out here as myself and everyone in my family have had childhood vaccines. Covid vaccines not so much, as in my family we prefer our pharmaceutical products to be properly tested before we put them in our bodies. How many of those did you end up taking before you realized they weren’t actually preventing you from getting and spreading covid?
You try to come off as an intellectual but you end up outing yourself as a denier.
The “childhood vaccines” are good but the 21st Century science must be flawed. Millions saved by the COVID-19 vaccine but you want to attribute it to, what? God’s intervention? When you deny current science, you can’t be reasoned with. Your Confirmation Bias limits what you’ll listen to and accept. I refuse to engage with your ignorance anymore but don’t worry, I’m sure I’ll be dead soon from getting the COVID-19 vaccine and the boosters. I’m disengaging, dips**t.
More Americans died of COVID-19 in 2021 (vaccines available) than in 2020 (vaccines not available), precisely because the vaccines weren’t especially good at preventing one from getting the disease or at giving the disease to others. We had a “pandemic of the vaccinated” — people got vaccinated, felt like they were safe, then ran around spreading the virus because the one thing the vaccines (that is, the mRNA vaccine variants) WERE good at was reducing symptoms. Cases skyrocketed and deaths increased.
On prevention of actually getting the disease, the Novavax protein subunit (that is, non-mRNA) vaccine may have been better. When COVID-19 hit my household the first time, I was the only one who never tested positive or got symptoms (I was a phase 3 trial volunteer for Novavax). The three people who’d had mRNA vaccines all got sick. The one unvaccinated person got sicker. Unfortunately, when a more recent variant hit the household, I got it too. I hadn’t been contacted as a prospective volunteer for Novavax’s latest booster.
Your “statistics” don’t tell the real story and your anecdotal examples wouldn’t hold water in any legitimate argument (you cherry-picked stats to reinforce your Confirmation Bias).
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/cd/Timeline_of_weekly_confirmed_COVID-19_deaths_in_the_United_States.svg/1280px-Timeline_of_weekly_confirmed_COVID-19_deaths_in_the_United_States.svg.png
Not even a very good try.
I made very specific statements that are indisputably correct.
And if I was suffering from confirmation bias, I’d be saying what you’re saying.
I advocated for very early emergency use authorization for the vaccines (specifically Moderna, which passed its Phase I — “general safety” — trial in May of 2020). My mom died in August of 2020. Maybe if she’d been able to get the fucking vaccine, she wouldn’t have, but FDA dragged its heels until December.
And I’d have taken the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine if they’d been available to me before I got the Novavax product instead as a clinical trial volunteer.
I’m about as anti-vaccine as Jonas Salk. I had the entire battery of childhood vaccines. I had the battery of vaccines required for entry into the US armed forces, and then I had the battery required for overseas deployment twice because I must have pissed someone in medical off and they “lost my shot record.” I’ve had more tetanus shots than I can remember. I get my flu shot every year and my pneumonia shot however many years apart that is. I’ve been trying to get my insurance to cover the shingles vaccine, but may pay full cost myself. When I get offered the RSV vaccine, I’ll be getting that one.
The only vaccine I ever had a problem with was an anthrax vaccine being dispensed from tubes clearly marked EXPERIMENTAL — DO NOT USE ON HUMANS in 1991. I took that one under protest after being threatened with court-martial if I didn’t.
“Millions saved by the COVID-19 vaccine”
Citation needed. More like billions of dollars made.
“When you deny current science”
What science have I denied? I have linked to a Cochrane review about masks. You are the one denying the science by trying to cherry pick one sentence from the review and ignoring what the lead author has to say about it. As far as covid vaccines I would love to see some gold standard data but unfortunately we’re never going to get that because they unblinded the trials after four months and gave everyone the vaccine. So what we are left with are hopelessly confounded observational studies and modeling studies. If you think data produced by modeling and retrospective studies are “current science” you bely your ignorance of what science is and how it works. I suggest you look up the hierarchy of evidence and get back to us. Now when challenged and shown to be incorrect you, like all branch covidians, shut down the conversation. Too bad it’s not as easy to get you to disengage on other topics you are woefully misinformed on. Make sure to get you next covid booster in a few months once your current one becomes useless.
Understanding EU not one of your strong sides?
1) EU is not proposing carrying debt for Ukraine
2) Even if EU was proposing this, Hungary is a net recipient of EU money, hence they will not be paying for any of this.
FJB and the globalists in the EU and UK.
Orban has been cuddling-up with Putin to extort NATO. He’ll get what he deserves.
What does he deserve?
He deserves to have his a** handed to him.
How does that work?
Didn’t read the article or couldn’t understand it?
Here; I’ll help:
“The plan that has been outlined by EU officials in a document obtained by FT looks to exploit Hungary’s economic weaknesses, hurt its currency, and scare off investors to hurt “jobs and growth” in the country.”
So basically blackmail? I wonder how that will work out for the EU. It will be funny when Russia and Chine prop up the Hungarian economy just to spite the technocrats in Brussels.
If you want to call it that. Guy’s gotta know when he’s holding the right cards. If he bluffs, he’d better be ready to find out what’s coming his way.
Like I said China and Russia (among others like India) will gladly step in and help Hungary. Then what? Will the EU throw a hissy fit?
You’ll get what you deserve soon enough little brat
I’m sure I won’t but you keep hoping, son.
Oh new Russian troll in the blog.
Welcome. Make sure you read beyond TASS and RT news if you don’t want to sound like an idiot.
We’re going to destroy your economy because you wont do what we want….
What bullies.
Can you imagine if Russia / China did this the out cry from the usual suspects .
Orban is right , and it just shows how corrupt the EU is when it will resort to black mail of another country .
Unintended consequence. More will follow.
Unless I am mistaken, this was reported in the FT but it is not mentioned in American Main Stream Media, Americans are kept in the dark. Problaby there would be many who would support Orban.
i do
LOL!! I can’t believe this B.S. out of the E.U. and USA. Purge the E.U. and the DC Ghouls.!!
The fact or reality is, at this time Russia is using military force and power when necessary and with restraint. The nation or great power that is now the most expansionist and militaristic is the United States of America. Nations that decided to join NATO like Sweden or Finland were too scared and exaggerated the threat posed by Russia. It would have been better for them to remain neutral.
Geographical or political alliances change with time. The circumstances in the United States these days are similar to the situation in France a few years before the French revolution, or the situation in Germany at the start of the 20th century before the two world wars.
The Nato alliance will likely break up in less than two decades, the Europeans will not stay united, with France and Germany entering into conflict with the USA and the UK, siding more with Russia.
What happened for a short time after the USA and Bush Jr invaded Iraq in 2003, when France objected to the invasion and France and Germany got closer to Russia for a while, could become a more permanent situation in the next decades.
Your narrative is complete fiction. With Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the old Cold War fears have (legitimately) returned. If Russia is defeated, then — and only then — will that fear subside. Face it, NATO has expanded and members are spending more of their GDP for defense. That’s not going away anytime soon.
What about all your narratives that (unlike the above narrative) have been proven to be fantasies? Remember when you were claiming that Ukraine was making a “thunder run to Crimea?” Here I’ll refresh your memory:
“Rational Thinker says:
August 9, 2023 at 5:26 pm
Right now the Russians are attacking near Kupyansk with reserves while the Ukrainians are advancing in the south after their successful river crossing at Kozachi Laheri. The Ukes are setting up a Thunder Run to Crimea and the military genius in Moscow is his troops into a meat grinder up north. Yes. He’s “achieved his objective” of being a tactical idiot!”
This was right about the time that even the western media were beginning to admit that the counteroffensive was stalled and that a breakthrough was probably not going to happen. But you were high on copium and propaganda and were unable to look at the situation objectively. So you calling someone else’s prognostications out as BS is really pretty funny. Keep up the good work.
I said they were setting one up. Are you sure that’s not part of the plan in Krynki, my limited friend? (Keep going with my quotes. I haven’t been proven wrong yet.)
Ok thunder run, whatever you say. It doesn’t look like anyone in Washington is anticipating a “thunder run to Crimea” any time soon. If ever.

We shall see.
We already did see and Ukraine couldn’t swing it. They have expended their offensive potential and are doing all they can to just hold the line. They can’t go on like this forever and sooner or later something has to give. I suspect something will give politically in Kiev before there is a general collapse on the war front.
Oh, the phony American Patriot coming after supporters of Ukraine as usual like you never post Russian propaganda here. Lol.
You do, all the fcking time.
Hey how are your Russian troops doing in Krinky? I’m sure you believe they are doing great cause all you watch is TASS.
You suck, Putin fluffier.
Tears are delicious. Especially coming from fascist fucks like yourself.
No, You are the fascist. You named yourself after Frank Rizzo (a known fascist). lol
What a clown.
Says the simpleton who was literally a fascist stormtrooper for empire. My handle has killed exactly zero innocent humans, but you “proudly served” in the military and facilitated the murder of millions. You should be ashamed.
I served my country and that makes me a fascist?
See, it is sh!t like this you said that confirms you are a phony. Americans don’t talk like that even those who disagree with their country’s domestic and foreign policies.
And I’m not ashamed of anything, why would I be?
You are the Nazi that should be ashamed for supporting Putin’s genocidal war in Ukraine, sending young men to die for his personal war.
I served proudly and would do it again if I had to despite few of my disagreements.
Now, YOU on the other hand, should be ashamed of claiming to be American.
You Russian bloggers are so full of it, can’t even stick to your own fcking script.
You guys are just like your Army, inept and incompetent.
You didn’t serve your country, you served corporate America you fascist scum. You contributed to the murder of millions of innocent humans. Americans do talk like this. I’ve been talking like this for over 20 years now. Ever since my fieldwork in the Arabian peninsula was cut short by crazed Americans like yourself. How many Iraqis and Afghanis did you personally slaughter? Or were you some kind of desk jockey? What has America gained from your “service” other than many trillions of USD down the hole and generational damage to our reputation abroad. Here is what myself and many other Americans think of your “service”:
“This topic brings me to that worst outcrop of the herd nature, the military system, which I abhor. That a man can take pleasure in marching in formation to the strains of a band is enough to make me despise him. He has only been given his big brain by mistake; a backbone was all he needed. This plague-spot of civilization ought to be abolished with all possible speed. Heroism by order, senseless violence, and all the pestilent nonsense that does by the name of patriotism–how I hate them! War seems to me a mean, contemptible thing. It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder. I would rather be hacked in pieces than take part in such an abominable business.”
-Albert Einstein
So, a country who you have claimed that their artillery can’t shoot straight, whose nukes don’t really work and is losing badly to tiny Ukraine should be legitimately feared?
There meatwaves are somewhat effective. Countries without mass artillery would struggle to defeat them on their own. NATO has plenty of artillery shells (including cluster munitions). NATO allies would decimate the meatwaves quickly. If Ukraine had become a NATO member prior to Putin’s invasion, you would’ve already seen that response.
But Ukraine didn’t become a NATO member prior to Russia’s invasion. So, what has changed that’s going to allow Ukraine to all of a sudden get the artillery shells needed? It’s not like NATO countries couldn’t already be supplying them. And you left out the part of NATO’s expansion up to Russia’s borders in your original comment and jumped right to Feb 2022. Those cold war fears returning started long before Russia’s invasion and was kick started by NATO eastward movement.
The threats voiced on Russian state tv did that.
Obviously they did not think so themselves – they were concerned by the lesson of 2008 with Georgia, in 2014 with Crimea, but the lesson of 2022 was really the breaking point that clearly demonstrated that being in NATO was better than being outside.
However NATO is not going to dissolve even if the US was to leave – European nations would need to band together even more if the US was to leave.
The Germans are not going to side withe the Russians – they took the very expensive decision (before NS1/NS2 was sabotaged) to end their dependence on Russian gas exactly because they did not want to be dependent on Russia.
No simply not going to happen as Germany and France are more dependent on their EU partners than on good relations with Russia – and most of their EU partners do not want a multipolar world where Russia and China gets to bully/annex their neighbors.
Hope he can hold out, … a beacon for us all.
