Two US Navy SEALs who went missing in the Arabian Sea off the coast of Somalia are dead, the US military declared on Sunday.
The SEALs went missing while boarding a boat carrying weapons allegedly bound for the Houthis in Yemen, making them the first American casualties of President Biden’s new war against the Yemeni group.
The SEALs went missing on January 11, not long before the US launched its initial round of missile strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen. According to the military, one of the SEALs fell into the water due to rough seas, and the other jumped in to rescue him.
“We regret to announce that after a 10-day exhaustive search, our two missing US Navy SEALs have not been located, and their status has been changed to deceased,” US Central Command said in a statement.
The SEALs are not the first US troops to die in the region since the US began backing Israel’s onslaught in Gaza. Back in November, five US Army special operations soldiers who were deployed to the region in the wake of October 7 died in a helicopter crash off Cyprus. The Pentagon said they were on a refueling training mission.
This makes exactly as much sense as when “five US Army special operations soldiers…” died on a helicopter “refueling training mission.” Look, I’m not an idiot but not an a$$hole. I don’t want my kids dying like that. But, are you telling me they were boarding a hostile boat in rough seas while they were loaded with weapons and gear, one of them falls off, and the other jumps after him, then both of them die swimming? …Why would you do any of that?
It sounds to me like they were ordered to operate in unsafe conditions. And yes, all that gear is an anchor around you.
Far more military personnel die in accidents than directly due to enemy action. Even outside full combat conditions, there are just a lot of dangerous environments. Helicopters crash. Trucks run over people. Jet blast blows people off carrier decks. Trying to move back and forth between vessels of any size is inherently dangerous, especially in deep water and especially when loaded down with combat gear.
?
So I have heard.
At a certain level of surface roughness and wind, moving back and forth between surface vessels becomes inherently dangerous and experienced Commanders would not allow the operation to go forward. Depending on the risk and benefit of course. At this point we don’t really know what kind of Kluster Fk state our military is operating in after years of DEI and Woke policies.
their dangerous work is important and should only be done when necessary, when national security is threatened, not in situations like this, not a just war.
(and u right about injuries just from the work itself. dangerous jobs, from a work comp standpoint. or even from a sports injury standpoint. guys on bases get in bike wrecks and break their collarbones or tear their knee playing basketball)
I agree. Imagine feeling confident you’re dying for your country –not for Israel genociding Palestinians?
If their deaths make the US rethink their position (yes, delusional I know) then they died for a noble cause. Otherwise, what a waste. I hate that I have become so cold hearted and feel nothing for them.
Some very entertaining videos at this website: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=fake+seals+don+shipley
Phony SEALS basking in their lies.
Entertaining videos on YouTube of Phony Seal hunter who calls them out.
When people “went missing” do they ever “went found”?
They lost their lives protecting an ongoing genocide and commercial shipping. Smedley Butler is tossing in his grave.
Itβs very sad for their families and the country. A waste of young life for plutocratic and hegemonic benefit.
US navy seals = aren’t those guys the equivalent of Chuck Norris, Steven Seagal and even John Wayne? how do a couple of those guys go missing unless they were up to no good ?
wait, what? oh they were done in by the bad-guy’s du-jour “Houthis” . = wow that explains that.
OMG remember when some “Al Qaida guys” managed to demolition both WTC twin-towers at the unheard of rate of 11 floors per second and the WTC-7 building at the regular rate of 7 floors per second ? wow what short memories American Citizens have.
There Is something wrong with the World today.
don’t make me post a music video just to prove my point.
shut up Agent Julio.
what
RIP. No matter what your view is on the mission, they died, trying to defend our interests. Take your issues with Plutocracy and corrupt leaders out on politicians and leaders. They died following their orders, and they deserve your respect for it unless you are an enemy.
They died trying to carry out their mission, whatever that was, but it in no way had anything to do with “my interests”; in fact, their actions go directly against “my interests”.
I am sorry they died; and feel especially sorry for their families, but it was a pointless and needless death.,
That’s fair, I don’t know about pointless, they are trying to keep ships safe. I think that’s fairly nobel. Look, I am really concerned, Isreal maybe starting WWIII right now. I’m no fan of Biden, but I don’t believe he is the one that wants this. He has an election and war going wrong in Europe. There is no way, the US can alienate Israel completely, it’s just not happening. He is applying pressure to negotiate peace and Netanyahu is a monster, he want’s to slaughter the entire country. I fear he’s planned this for some time, as well as dragging us into it to do their bidding against Iran. And it’s getting to a critical point. I feel horrible for the Palestinian people and I am sure most normal humans do as well. We need to do more to stop this. But I don’t have that answer.
“We need to do more to stop this. But I don’t have that answer.”
One phone call is all it would take. If Joe Biden told Netanyahu to stop or the money, weapons and diplomatic cover will stop, Netanyahu would have to stop pretty quickly.
Biden won’t do that because, if he did, the Israel lobby would make sure that he isn’t reelected and that’s more important to Biden and his fellow Democrats than the genocide in Gaza.
He does not have that much power, sorry. Not that simple.
It absolutely is that simple. Israel cannot continue the slaughter without US support. Period.
Biden isn’t a dictator. Aipac has spent the past 50 plus years buying US politicians. Biden has an election coming up, and again, just keeping it real. The guys a war hawk, he’s not going to sacrificed his career to save the Palestinians? Should he? Maybe, probably, but that would be career suicide.
That’s not an argument against my assertion that Biden could stop the killing with a phone call. And I already said that he won’t do it because he and his party value political victory over stopping genocide.
You seem to be unsure whether he’s making a valid choice or not. I’m entirely certain that it is an immoral and evil choice.
I agree that it’s evil and immoral. No doubt about it. Even worse, this entire thing could be the catalyst for WWIII. I’m not entire unconvinced that Biden and the Demcorats are not doing it by design. I think his main concern is making sure he can pin it on someone else and portray himself as the man who helplessly tried his best to make peace. The best thoery on all of this I’ve heard, is that they are trying to recreate WWIII in a fashion that gets other powers so involved in wars that we just have to step in and clean up and take control after they exhaust themselves. It’s not improbable, if you look at Ukraine and Taiwan, now Isreal. It would pull Russian, China, Iran into major conflicts that would strain their resources.
Can’t argue with that, except that I don’t think they really want to go all the way to WWIII, since even the dumbest of the neocons know that everyone loses in a full-on nuclear war. However, they absolutely are dumb enough to start WWIII with their reckless arrogance.
Oh no you are missing the greater point. They don’t WANT nuclear war, but conventional wars that exhaust and deplete their militaries. Essentially a repeat of WWII where we step in and take over the world after it is weakened by war.
which countries do you see us invading now? I see Russian invading Ukriane. I see China threatening to invade Taiwan and bullying small islands. I see BOTH Russia and China publishing new maps claiming new territory that isn’t theirs. And I see Israel, invading a sovereign neation committing genocide, with our support. How do you see the United States as the biggest player responsible in all of this? Wheres the criticism of Russia and China?
Russia invaded Ukraine in the wake of decades of blatant US-NATO action moving military threats ever-closer to the Russian border, finally attempting to turn Ukraine into a hostile force on its most sensitive border. John Mearsheimer has been explaining this with great clarity since 2015.
Why is Ukraine the West”s fault?
There is no credible evidence that China intends to invade Taiwan anytime in the foreseeable future. What China does “threaten” to do is create the world’s largest economy, becoming one of the forces that is destined to knock the US off its perch as sole planetary superpower. It’s already there in purchasing power parity and it won’t be long before it’s there in dollar equivalents also. The US doesn’t like this, so it’s doing all it can to present China as a threat, encircle it with military bases, enlist its neighbors in a hostile alliance, encourage tension between Taiwan and the PRC, etc.
Is China planning to attack Taiwan?
I see the US as the biggest threat to peace on the planet because an honest assessment of reality makes it absolutely clear that it is. What’s more, it has been the biggest threat to peace for my entire life, and I’m quite old. I can think of all sorts of reasons to criticize Russia and China, but neither of those countries is stretching military tentacles across the globe, constantly threatening and sanctioning nations around the world, engaging in endless violent attacks on others who pose no threat, launching wars of choice and aggression, etc. The US is, and it’s doing so in our names and with our money, so it’s on the top of my list for criticism.
Sounds like a BS excuse to me. A one sided hypocrites view.
I’m probably not the only one here who is unsurprised that you think that.
I do find it really interesing that you support countries that wasn’t to redraw world maps to claim new terroritory as you criticize everything that US does.
Rejecting obvious bullshit, on the basis of actual, careful, longstanding research and assessment β and having a realistic view of international relations rather than the view of a fanboy “patriot” β is very different from “supporting” those countries that you don’t like. And if you’d like to have a real understanding of what your countries leaders have been doing in your name and with your tax money, all around the world, for decades, you might consider doing some of that careful research I mentioned, rather than just parroting the official line. On the subjects under discussion now, those links I provided would be good starting places.
Nice defelction, without addressing the facts. China is redrawing maps. Russia is invading countries and claming territories on legality desputes outside of internataional courts. I wish my government, would pay me to go skin them alive on a live stream.
You’re a moron β a nasty one. Bye now.
So; the story says they died while boarding a ship suspected of carrying arms to Yemen; a blockade of which is illegal, as there is no official war with Yemen; but legality aside, I guess you could make the argument that IF the ship was carrying weapons that could be used to target other ships THEN intercepting them MIGHT keep other ships safe, but that’s sort of hypothetical.
I beleive they showed photos of the contraband they intercepted from the ship. We can agree on legalities, but he’s damne if he does and damned if he does nothing. Isreal ending their war and occupation is the only real solution. We have made clear that we support a two state solution, but can’t force Isreal to accept it. If you have been keen to observe, they extremist terrorirst have taken over their government led by Netanyahu.
So much of this story makes no sense. It sounds very much like a Pentagon spokes-flack coverup, throwing in a little bit of “selfless heroism” to make the story go over better and discourage any questions.
MAYBE it actually happened; even a stopped clock is right twice per day. But I am not convinced. There’s a whole lot more to this, I am thinking.
How does Pentagon know this when witnesses are dead…?!
They were probably captured from sea (if fell in water) and imprisoned…!
Story Time at the Pentagon. “How can we spin a heroic story out of another clusterF-up? Best fairy tale wins a prize!”
