CIA Publishes Video Telling Russians to Contact Them

Throughout the war, the CIA has openly tried to recruit Russians

On Monday, the CIA published a video on YouTube and Telegram urging Russians to contact the agency in an effort to recruit intelligence assets inside Russia.

Text at the end of the short video said: “Contact us. Perhaps the people around you don’t want to hear the truth. We want to.” The video closed with links to contact the CIA via secure servers using Tor, a web browser that encrypts user activity.

The CIA has a site on the dark web that it uses to gather information from people around the world. The agency has tried to recruit Russians throughout the war, asking them to take a huge risk by providing information via the dark web.

“We are providing Russian-language instructions on how to safely contact CIA — via our Dark Web site or a reputable VPN — for those who feel compelled to reach us because of the Russian government’s unjust war,” a CIA official told CBS News in May 2022.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was asked about the CIA video and said it’s likely Russia’s intelligence services were looking into the matter. “I am convinced that our special services are monitoring this space in the necessary way,” he said, according to Al Jazeera.

“We all know perfectly well that the CIA and other Western intelligence services are not reducing their activity on the territory of our country,” Peskov added.
