Israeli airstrikes have been carried out against the Syrian city of Aleppo and the capital city of Damascus. The primary target was the Aleppo airport, while some air defenses reported strikes against military targets in and around Damascus.
Israel is not commenting, as usual, and details are still coming in on the consequences. The airport appears to have sustained damage, though how much is yet unconfirmed. There have been some fires in the area.
Air defenses appear to have prevented any substantial hits in Damascus, and while there is no damage reported, early state media reports say that there were no casualties.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights suggested that the airport strike targeted warehouses, and speculated Iranian missiles may have been present. This appears to be in keeping with Israel’s excuses for strikes, which are always Iran-centric.
This bombing is done for no other reason that Israel can do it and get away with it. Syria is not able to respond without bringing down the wrath of the Israeli air force. And most countries just turn the other check when Israel engages in this type of wanton destruction. It is arbitrary reprehensible behavior with the only possible purpose being to gin up tensions in the area leading towards a war with Iran. Ultimately, Israel is transparent. It wants land and water. And if Iran were driven into state of dysfunction then they are the regional power. A sad prospect given the sickness that has possessed this country created out of thin air.
