EU efforts to restart the nuclear talks are finally bearing fruit. US and Iranian diplomats are heading to Qatar Monday for the resumption of indirect talks, expected to start Tuesday.
Qatar was willing to host the all-important talks, and Iranian officials are heading in with a fresh team and talk of more flexibility as hardliners were removed from key positions.
Iran’s been hinting at willingness to compromise on issues like the IRGC blacklisting, but the US has so far not engaged on that. Even now, the US is coming into the talks with “low expectations.”
Whether that’s warranted is unclear, as the US has been pessimistic for months on the talks. With actual talks, even indirect ones, the US will struggle to not participate in any real way if a deal is to be had.
