US officials said Monday that the Biden administration is preparing to purchase a Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) for Ukraine as part of a new weapons package that will likely be announced this week.
The NASAMS is an advanced air defense system with a range of over 100 miles and is used to protect airspace around the White House and the Capitol Building in Washington. The NASAMS is a joint project between the Norway-based Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and Raytheon, the US arms maker that previously employed Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin as a board member.
National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan told reporters that the administration plans to finalize a package this week that will give Ukraine “advanced” air defense capabilities and other weapons without specifying the type of system.
“We do intend to finalize a package that includes advanced medium and long-range air defense capabilities for the Ukrainians, along with some other items that are of urgent need, including ammunition for artillery and counterbattery radar systems,” Sullivan said.
The fact that the US is planning to purchase the NASAMS suggests the administration will use funds from the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI), which gives the president the authority to purchase arms for Ukraine. The $40 billion Ukraine aid bill President Biden recently signed into law includes $6 billion for the USAI.
How lucky that the USA can just keep on printing money to buy gifts for Ukraine (to be taken by Russia) as it has no need to help the US population who have all they need to keep happy. The “G7” have shown that the seven dwarfs have no competent leaders among them, and joining them up with vonderCrazy, Charles Michel and showing their “meeting” with no attempt to treat any of the real problems we face, is typical.
Yet Norway is a NATO ally and supposedly all-in with the sanctions on Russia and support for Ukraine. But of course, they won’t actually GIVE Ukraine anything (besides obsolete scrap cluttering their maintenance yards) unless “someone” else pays them for it. IF Norway “believes” in this war, than Norway should, as a wealthy nation, donate this aid. There is no way we should be paying them for this.
You should be more concerned about your fellow Russian citizens tax money funding Putin’s personal war.
No I’m a US citizen concerned about having my pockets picked by European con men and Ukrainian “actors” fronting for neo-nazis like, well, you.
As well as being picked clean by our Fearless Leader, Javy.
Just turn me upside down and shake me ‘til my pockets are empty.
If disagreeing with Putin’s scorched earth like foreign policies makes me a Neo Nazi, then sure. I am one.
Of course you are; that, or a paid shill for them, which is even worse. And, define just exactly how Russia is pursuing a “scorched earth policy”.
Let’s go Brandon and POS puppet master obama.
US will a send Norwegian Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System to ukraine.
wow uncle sam is a middle-man now. or maybe because the norwegian system is inferior to the US system.
Funneling money to Norway keeps them in line. And each battery costs the Russians another missile. Not to mention fuel for the trucks. It all adds up. And they can’t just print money like we can. The fools!
There are credible rumors that, recently, one of Ukraine’s missile defense systems accidentally shot down the missiles of another of their missile defense systems. So, maybe three systems will be even better!
Blinken/Biden clearly continue to believe that they are “winning” by using the lives of Ukrainians to deplete Russia’s economy. One day soon, however, it will be obvious to American voters that it’s hurting the US economy more than it’s hurting the Russian economy; and to Ukraine citizens that they are being used as pawns in a conflict that has never been about what is good for Ukraine.
This is much more limited than the US Patriot system, about 20 miles range per Wikipedia.
Another waste of money. These air defense systems can not defend against Russian hypersonic missiles. They’re also not small. They entail at least one battery includes six mobile short-range missile launchers mounted on tracked vehicles, as well as three wheeled M1152A1-based High Mobility Launcher (HML) for the AIM-120 AMRAA plus one fire control centre (CTOC), one electro-optical camera vehicle (MSP500) and one Tactical Control Cell (TCC) vehicle.
Russia will destroy them as soon as it sees them.
Congress continues to plumb the depths of utter and mindless stupidity=”limited nuclear war:”

One may wonder when/if Russia will sell some of it’s advanced systems to say Iran?…
