Returning to the Iran nuclear deal was seen as mutually beneficial for all sides throughout the Vienna talks, and everyone seemed set to ultimately do that, with the deal all but finalized before a seven-week pause in progress, and reports that the US has decided that they likely won’t be making a deal but also don’t want to declare the talks dead either.
State Department officials are now saying that the are preparing for a scenario in which everyone just returns to compliance with the existing deal, despite never agreeing to do so in Vienna.
State Dept spokesman Ned Price said that the return to compliance is “very much an uncertain proposition,” but that the US is preparing for that possibly happening.
Exactly what this would look like isn’t very clear from the comments made. In particular, since the US struggled to comply with its obligations when they hadn’t dishonored the deal, it is difficult to imagine the US coming back in to compliance on sanctions relief without a formal agreement to that effect.
Another words, we (US) are ready to return to the original deal but we do not cough it up…!
By everyone, he means Iran while the U.S. keeps the trade embargo in place.
Agree, fits a pattern of constructing specious accusatory narrative preparatory to continued, and likely escalatory, hostile actions by Israel or Washington.
“State Department officials are now saying that the are preparing for a scenario in which everyone just returns to compliance with the existing deal, despite never agreeing to do so in Vienna.”
And returning to compliance would imply that anyone else was ever in compliance other than Iran.
Israeli whip come down on dem mericans.
America has ceased to exist as a nation. Now it is just a colony, no a slave yard, owned by Israel. At the least as a drugged society as Argo City
How exactly is that going to work? Do we lift sanctions without an agreement? Can that work politically in the good old USA?
Maybe we just want their oil, for the moment.
But they won’t destroy their own progress in a spasm of self destruction, based on nothing, so “return to compliance” even on their side makes no sense. It is nonsense. Hence, I think it is just an excuse to put their oil on the market while we need it.
We certainly want their oil, we are being nice to them and to Venezuela I expect it isn’t a coincidence.
Not to mention that Ned Price is a lying CIA weasel.
Are you frickin’ serious? Does anyone here think this is anything less than risible? So what the US is saying is, “Hey, we’ll just come back into compliance, drop all the sanctions and go on as if nothing happened”? Is anyone here STUPID enough to believe that?
The US did not struggle to comply. It never complied with sanctions relief. If it did now, that would be a first.
I sincerely hope that Iran “complies” with no one but their own government.
What the f*ck ever happened to the sovereignty of nations without interference from Amerikkka?
This is one sick country—-hopefully sick enough to descend into its death throes.
