In the ongoing offensive in Iraq, Turkey claimed Iraq is supporting, and directly involved in the campaign. Iraq denied that this was the case.
On Thursday, Turkey summoned the Iraqi charges d’affaires to discuss the matter, as they seem to get the impression Iraq likes this offensive, while the Iraqi embassy says this is not the case.
President Erdogan has been claiming “close cooperation” with Iraq, and the Iraqi Kurds, and if both are saying they’re not, something is not clicking in the narrative.
It’s clear why Turkey would want to claim Iraqi and Iraqi Kurdish support for the offensive, but the controversial nature of cross-border attackers also make it clear why those factions might prefer not to have that position as a matter of the public record, especially when Turkey’s history of offensives against Kurdish group is what it’s been.
