On Wednesday night, the House approved a bill that would ban the import of Russian oil, natural gas, and coal.
The bill would reinforce the executive order signed by President Biden this week banning Russian energy imports. The legislation also calls for a review of Russia’s status at the World Trade Organization and encourages more sanctions on Russia.
Despite the soaring gas prices in the US, the bill was overwhelmingly approved in a vote of 414-17. Only two Democrats voted against the legislation, Reps. Ilhan Omar (MN) and Cori Bush (MO).
The Republicans that voted against the bill are Reps. Thomas Massie (KY), Matt Gaetz (FL), Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA), Andy Biggs (AZ), Louie Gohmert (TX), Dan Bishop (NC) Glenn Grothman (WI), Lauren Boebert (CO), Tom Tiffany (WI), Paul Gosar (AZ), Clay Higgins (LA), Scott DesJarlais (TN), Madison Cawthorn (NC), Bill Posey (FL), and Chip Roy (TX).
The vote is viewed as largely symbolic since Biden already signed his executive order, and according to Politico, the Senate is not expected to consider the House version of the bill. But the vote demonstrates the bipartisan unity in trying to isolate the Russian economy in the wake of Russia’s attack on Ukraine regardless of the cost to Americans.
When gas hits $10 at the pump, Biden is going to regret this at the mid-terms and 2024. Personally I couldn’t be happier that the US is shooting itself in the head.
That’s sick. Never mind the millions who will suffer.
But, millions voted to give these people political authority. They have to accept the blame for their stupidity.
And millions didn’t. We bitch about our government imposing sanctions on other countries because the average citizen is the one that pays the price while those in charge don’t feel the pain. You think that’s going to be different here?
Of course it’s not going to be any different here. But I won’t feel bad for anybody that cast their vote for either main candidate. These are the type of people who tell me that if you don’t vote then you don’t have a right to complain. The millions who didn’t vote for either main candidate are the ones that I’ll sympathize with.
That’s all I’m saying. I don’t vote for “R’s” or “D’s” so I bristle at he idea that we’re all deserving of a fate worse than death because we live here.
Biden and company will fight this economic war right down to the last hungry American child. Just like the dead Iraqi children were “worth it” to the Clinton administration, the suffering of poor Americans will be “worth it” to the Biden administration. Gotta achieve those foreign policy goals.
