ISIS fighters have carried out an ambush and attack against a Syrian military convoy in Deir Ezzor Province Monday, killing at least nine soldiers and wounding another 15.
The attack saw ISIS firing artillery and later rockets, hitting a military transport bus, resulting in the casualties. This was followed with fire from an anti-aircraft gun.
This area, including the Palmyra desert, is one of several areas of eastern Syria where ISIS remnant fighters are clustered. The group often attacks as opportunity presents itself, but has proven unable to recover any populated areas.
Syria is still struggling, showing an inability to expel ISIS from the deserts, meaning this could be a long-term issue.
I am sure that the United States offering refuge to God knows what and refusing to allow Syria to take control have nothing to do with it.
Not to mention, ISIS can always high-tail it across the border to Iraq.
