Israel’s operations in Syria are mostly seen in the form of stray airstrikes. It became a lot more hands-on when Mossad agents saw an unnamed Iranian general taking his morning jog.
Operating under the impression that the general was likely to know something, they was kidnapped him off the streets of Damascus and took him to Israel for interrogation. Israeli officials were hoping to find out info on missing airman Ron Arad, who was lost in Lebanon in 1986.
After intense interrogation, Israel figured out the general didn’t know anything, so they took him to Johannesburg, South Africa and ditched him on the street. They left him a phone number for the Iranian Embassy.
Arad is believed to have died as far back as 1988. Saudi media reported Israel had recently taken DNA from a corpse in Lebanon to test it, but the results have not been made public.
When Izreal kidnaps you, friend, family member or relative, who do you call..??? Perhaps the International Criminal Court or the United Nations…??? Neither Israel, nor Iran, nor Syria (where the general was kidnapped) are signatory to the Rome Statute, which means this abduction didn’t fall under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.
That is more or less the point of my comment, that such crimes have no recourse for the victims. There is no credible legal accountability. It seems that Isreal’s entire scope of action & existence is outside of legal governance. A rogue nuclear apartheid state foist on the lands of other people. That just gets more & more brazen and outrageous in its actions because of lack of accountability It never seems to civilize it’s statecraft which “I” an forced to aid and abet as an American taxpayer, its wrecking ball statecraft of wanton slaughter & dispossesions. It makes my conscience scream.
Israel has never signed the NPT, which Iran has. Israel is a rogue nation with the BOMB. No inspections too, thank you.
I guess perhaps I was a bit more harsh than called called for in my comment on this incident. In that the general was released and is not in prison. And probably not any worse or broken by the experience. It’s good to see this moderston in temperament in such matters by any State, excercising military force.
Iran does the same to an Israeli general and what happens? This shit gets old.
