President Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Thursday that he didn’t intend to launch strikes against Iran prior to the US midterm elections that will be held on November 3, comments that came after multiple media reports said he was considering bombing the country before the vote.
Trump claimed in the post that the US was having “productive discussions with the Islamic Republic of Iran” and said that the US “will not be attacking Iran at any time prior to the Midterm Elections.”
The post is seen as an effort to cool markets, as oil prices spiked upon the news of potential US attacks on Iran. The president has also previously put out a similar message before a major escalation against Iran.

Back in June 2025, hours before Israeli warplanes began US-backed strikes against Iran to start what became known as the 12-Day War, the president wrote on Truth Social that the US remained “committed to a Diplomatic Resolution to the Iran Nuclear Issue” and said that his “entire Administration has been directed to negotiate with Iran.”
Trump also claimed in his post on Thursday that “record numbers of oil” were flowing through the Strait of Hormuz and that 22 million barrels had passed through in one night, but while oil has been moving through the strait, the estimates put it nowhere near that number, and Iran has dramatically ramped up attacks on tankers in the area.
While Iranian officials say they’re still open to diplomacy with the US, they’re also making clear that they’re prepared for another round of US strikes.
“We presented our plan, which was referred to as the seven-day plan, and heard the views of the Americans in response. We are now reviewing those views, and I think we will respond within the next few days,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Aragchi said on Thursday when discussing the indirect negotiations with the US.
“But if they once again move toward military solutions, we are more prepared than before and will take whatever measures are necessary to defend ourselves,” he added.
