A Ukrainian drone attack on Russia’s Belgorod Oblast killed at least six people, according to local Russian authorities, as Ukraine continues to launch massive drone swarms into Russian territory on a daily basis.
According to Reuters, Alexander Shuvayev, the acting governor of Belgorod, said that the Ukrainian drone attacks sparked fires at two apartment buildings and damaged multiple residential and non-residential buildings in the region. He initially put the death toll at three, but it was raised after rescue workers found bodies in one of the apartment buildings.
Dozens of others were injured by the Ukrainian drone attacks, including a four-year-old boy. This year, there’s been a significant increase in Russian civilian casualties caused by Ukrainian drone attacks.
In turn, Russia has ramped up its missile bombardments of Ukrainian cities, and more civilians are being killed in Ukraine. On Sunday, at least two people were killed in an apartment building in Kharkiv during a Russian missile bombardment, according to The Associated Press.
Ukrainian drone attacks have also been hitting oil refineries and warehouses belonging to Wildberries, a Russian online retailer that’s become a frequent target of Ukrainian drones just in recent weeks. Ukraine’s drone attacks are backed by the US, which provides intelligence to evade Russian air defenses, meaning they always risk an escalation between Russia and NATO.
