An Israeli airstrike targeted a residential building in Gaza City on Wednesday night, killing at least seven people, including three women and a child, as the IDF continues its constant violations of the US-backed ceasefire deal.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society told WAFA that the seven bodies and 18 wounded Palestinians were transferred to the al-Shifa Hospital and a field hospital in Gaza City. The strike came as Palestinians in Gaza were celebrating the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, and photos from earlier in the day showed Gaza residents gathered for public prayer.

“It was meant to be the first night of Eid celebrations and family visits in the Gaza Strip,” said Ibrahim al-Khalili, an Al Jazeera reporter based in Gaza City. “Instead, it turned into a tragedy as Israeli fighter jets carried out intense air strikes targeting a residential building in central Gaza City.”
The Israeli military claimed that it targeted two “senior” Hamas operatives in the airstrike, but so far, the claim hasn’t been confirmed by Hamas. Regardless of who Israel targets, any attacks violate the October 2025 ceasefire deal, under which Israel committed to halting all military operations.
On Tuesday night, an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City killed Mohammed Odeh, the head of Hamas’s military wing, the al-Qassams Brigades, just 11 days after the IDF assassinated his predecessor. The strike on Odeh also killed his wife, two sons, and two other Palestinians.
