Israeli Strike in Gaza Kills Father, Mother, and Their Six-Month-Old Baby

The IDF continues its constant violations of the US-backed ceasefire deal

An Israeli airstrike in central Gaza on Sunday killed three family members, including a six-month-old baby, as the IDF continues its constant violations of the US-backed ceasefire deal.

Medics told Reuters that the Israeli strike hit an apartment in the Nuseirat Refugee Camp and killed Mohammad Abu ‌Mallouh, Alaa Zaqlan, and their six-month-old infant Osama. Photos from the al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah show Palestinians mourning the family.

The baby’s grandmother, Umm Hamza Abu Mallouh, said the couple left behind six other children, all girls. “A man sleeping along with his wife, and their [sixth-month-old infant] son in their bed. The rocket fell on his bed, and it took him, with his wife and son, leaving behind six young girls,” she told Reuters.

Yehia Abu Mallouh, the baby’s uncle, told Reuters that the family was given no warning before the strike and that they were found “cut into pieces.” At least 10 people were also wounded in the attack.

The Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that another Palestinian was killed later on Sunday by an Israeli sniper in Jabalia, northern Gaza, bringing the death toll for Sunday to at least four.

A day earlier, an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City killed five police officers and a thirteen-year-old boy. In recent months, the IDF has stepped up its attacks on Gaza’s police to disrupt Hamas’s control of the area. Hani Mahmoud, a reporter for Al Jazeera based in Gaza City, said the targeting of police was “part of an effort to further plunge the Gaza Strip into further chaos, as well as dismantle whatever is left of the civilian order.”

According to the latest numbers from Gaza’s Health Ministry, which were released on Saturday, the Israeli military has killed at least 890 Palestinians and wounded 2,677 since the ceasefire deal was signed in October 2025. Israel has also violated it by continuing restrictions on aid entering Gaza and taking more territory, expanding the IDF-occupied area to 60% of the Strip.
