US Bombs Iran’s Qeshm Port and Bandar Abbas

Iran's military has said that the US violated the ceasefire by attacking ships and launching airstrikes on Iranian ports

The US military has bombed a port on Iran’s Qeshm island in the Strait of Hormuz as well as the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas, a US official told Fox News reporter Jennifer Griffin, in what is likely the resumption of full-scale war in the region.

The official claimed to Griffin that the US was not restarting the war and that it didn’t view bombing Iran as ending the ceasefire.

According to Drop Site News reporter Jeremy Scahill, Iran’s Armed Forces issued a statement saying that the US violated the ceasefire by attacking ships in the region and carrying out “aerial attacks on civilian areas in cooperation with some regional countries on the coasts of Bandar Khamir, Sirik, and Qeshm Island.”

Earlier, an Iranian official said that Iran’s military had fired on US forces in the region, and US Central Command released a statement later saying that three US Navy destroyers came under attack while transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian official said the attack was a response to a US aircraft targeting an oil tanker. It’s unclear if the official was referring to the attack on a tanker claimed by US Central Command on Wednesday or if another attack occurred on Thursday.

CENTCOM claimed that after the attack on the destroyers, it “targeted Iranian military facilities responsible for attacking US forces, including missile and drone launch sites; command and control locations; and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance nodes.”

Iranian media is reporting that air defenses have also been activated in Tehran, suggesting the Iranian capital is under attack, and that there have been fresh explosions in Bandar Abbas since the initial attack.
