Israeli Airstrike in Northern Gaza Kills at Least Five Palestinians, Including Three Children

The IDF ramped up attacks in Gaza this month as it continues its constant ceasefire violations

An Israeli airstrike in northern Gaza on Wednesday night killed at least five Palestinians, including three children, the Palestinian news agency WAFA reported, as the IDF continues its constant violations of the US-backed ceasefire deal.

A WAFA correspondent said the strike struck a group of Palestinians near a mosque in Beit Lahia, and other people were injured in the strike. Photos from social media show what appear to be three young boys who were killed in the attack.

Israeli attacks hit other parts of Gaza earlier on Wednesday, including the Bureij refugee camp in the central part of the Strip, where at least four Palestinians were injured by Israeli gunfire. WAFA also reported that an Israeli airstrike on a group of Palestinians working in the rubble of their home killed one person.

Gaza’s Health Ministry said in its daily update, which it releases about midday Gaza time, that it recorded the Israeli killing of one Palestinian and that another person succumbed to wounds sustained in a previous attack. “A number of victims are still under the rubble and in the streets, as ambulance and civil defense crews have been unable to reach them so far,” the ministry wrote on Telegram.

The ministry added that since the so-called ceasefire deal was signed in early October, at least 786 Palestinians have been killed by the IDF in Gaza. The five people killed on Wednesday night would bring that number to 791.

The UN has said that it recorded a surge in Israeli attacks earlier this month, following the ceasefire in the US-Israeli war against Iran. “Our partners on the ground report that between 12 and 18 April, incidents such as gunfire, shelling and strikes increased by 46 percent compared with the previous week, marking the highest weekly total since the October ceasefire agreement went into effect,” said UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
