Israeli Drone Attacks Lebanon Checkpoint, Wounding Two Including Lebanese Soldier

One killed in Saturday strike near Tyre

On Sunday, Israel continues its attacks against southern Lebanon with a drone strike against an army checkpoint in Bint Jbeil District. The strikes wounded at least two people, one of whom was a Lebanese soldier.

The reports are that the drone targeted a vehicle at the checkpoint, but apparently didn’t end up killing anyone. The Lebanese soldier was reported to be moderately wounded in the strike. Israel has not commented on the attack.

Multiple Israeli attacks were also reported on Saturday, including a deadly strike against the town of Zrariyeh, near the city of Tyre. There, a drone attacked a vehicle on the road and killed one person.

The IDF did comment on that strike, declaring the person slain to be a “Hezbollah commander.” As with most of the putative commanders Israel reports killed any given week, there has not been any evidence provided he actually was in Hezbollah, nor has Hezbollah reported the loss of a commander.

Israeli airstrikes were also reported Saturday targeting Aita ash-Shaab and Yaroun. Reportedly the Aita ash-Shaab strike targeted old artillery batteries, while the Yaroun attack targeted a concrete block manufacturing site. No casualties were reported in either incident.

More attacks seem possible on Sunday as well, as in the Bekaa Valley, where local elections are ongoing, people are reporting Israeli drones flying at low altitude overhead. Further east than most of Israel’s strikes, the Bekaa Valley is also often a target for attack because of its proximity to the Syrian border.
