Yemen’s Houthis Fire Missile at Israel

The Israeli military said it intercepted the missile, and debris landed in a West Bank settlement

Yemen’s Houthis, officially known as Ansar Allah, announced on Thursday a missile attack against Israel as the Yemeni group has continued its attacks in support of the Palestinians in Gaza after reaching a ceasefire with the US.

Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said the attack targeted Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport, which was struck by a Yemeni missile earlier this month. Thursday’s attack was intercepted by Israeli air defenses, according to the Israeli military.

According to The Times of Israel, debris from either the missile or the interceptor landed in a Jewish settlement in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. No injuries were reported, but the attack set off sirens across central Israel.

“The missile has successfully achieved its objective, causing millions of occupying Zionists to flee to shelters and halting airport operations for nearly an hour,” Saree said, according to Yemen’s SABA news agency.

The latest Yemeni attack on Israel comes nearly a week and a half after President Trump announced a surprise ceasefire deal with the Houthis. He framed the truce as a US victory, but the US really gave up trying to stop Yemeni attacks on Israel after a month and a half of heavy airstrikes failed to deter the Houthis.

Israel was reportedly caught off guard by the US-Yemen truce. “Israel will defend itself by itself,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said after Trump’s announcement. “If others join us—our American friends—all the better. If they don’t, we will still defend ourselves on our own.”

The Trump administration launched its bombing campaign in Yemen on March 15, and, according to the US military, it conducted over 1,000 strikes. The bombing campaign had a devastating impact on civilians, killing more than 200.
