Hezbollah Drone Strikes Kill at Least Three Israeli Soldiers, 67 Wounded

Drones were sent into Israel amid a cover of rocket fire

Violence along the Israel-Lebanon border continues to grow at a daily rate, with a Sunday evening drone strike reported at an Israeli military training site near the northern Israeli town of Binyamina. Three Israeli soldiers were reported killed, and at least 67 people wounded in the attack.

According to the reports, three drones were launched at the area of Binyamina, which is in the Haifa District, south of Haifa. The drones were launched amid a flurry of Hezbollah rocket fire, and while the IDF intercepted two of the drones, the other one reached its target.

Locals say the explosion came without warning sirens, and many people were badly wounded in the attack. Four were described as being in critical condition, five in serious condition, and a considerable number of others were in moderate condition. It is not immediately clear what the split is between soldiers and civilians wounded.

Hezbollah issued a statement confirming they were behind the drone strike, saying it showed that they have a strong ability to resist Israel and can strike deep into Israeli territory. They added that he strike was retaliation for recent Israeli attacks on the Lebanese capital city of Beirut.

Hezbollah and Israel have been trading strikes for over a year now, and it has grown to a near daily occurrence in recent months. It has only been growing in recent weeks, with the Israeli invasion of Lebanon and assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.

Though the US continues to arm Israel and provide them with diplomatic cover at the UN over their violations of international law, they have also pushed Israel to “wrap up” the attacks on Lebanon as soon as possible, saying they need to “pivot” to a diplomatic strategy soon. Israeli officials are so far providing no indication they are even contemplating an end-game to wars in either Lebanon or the Gaza Strip, and are focused on regional escalation.
