Israel carried out attacks against southern Lebanon today, hitting several towns and villages. The Lebanese Health Ministry is reporting that a woman was killed and at least 5 wounded, including a 12-year-old boy.
The woman was killed and two others wounded in the village of Qabrikha when Israeli artillery fire hit the area. An airstrike was also reported in Houla, which wounded at least three other people.
The Israeli military said that Qabrikha was attacked because it had been the source of Hezbollah rocket fire in the last few days. The fact a woman was killed and a child wounded does not make it appear that Hezbollah was targeted.
Hezbollah responded by firing an estimated 65 rockets against northern Israel, in the largest rocket attack by the organization so far this month. Israeli officials insist there were no casualties, though there are reports of fires caused by the attacks.
Israel retaliated to the retaliation by firing more strikes against southern Lebanon. It is not yet clear what was hit in these strikes.
Israel and Hezbollah have been trading strikes on a near daily basis for months. The strikes began in October with the start of the Israeli war in the Gaza Strip, and has escalated in Lebanon in recent weeks, as Israeli officials talk of launching an invasion of Lebanese territory.
The source of rocket fire changes on a daily basis making this ineffective…!
