Israeli Drone Strike Kills Hamas Commander in Eastern Lebanon

Israel also kills Hezbollah member in southern Lebanon attack

On Thursday morning, an Israeli drone struck the village of Ghazzeh, in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley, almost 25 miles across the border. The attack hit a vehicle, killing a man identified as Muhammed Jabara.

Jabara was reported by Israel as being a commander in Hamas, and said his killing would limit Hamas’ ability to carry out attacks against Israel. Hamas confirmed the death of Jabara, who was reportedly linked to the Qassam Brigades.

Jabara was also identified as a member of Lebanon’s Jama’a al-Islamiyya, a Sunni group seen as politically aligned with Hamas. Lebanese media sources described him as a “senior commander” of the group.

In addition, Israel carried out an attack near Zebqine, in the Tyre District of southern Lebanon later in the morning. A member of Hezbollah was reportedly killed, identified as Hasan Ali Mhanna.

These attacks come amid a growing Israeli escalation of assaults across Lebanon and continued suggestions of that escalation leading to a full-scale invasion of that country. Israeli officials have suggested that a truce in the Gaza Strip would enable them to commit more forces to attacking Lebanon.

Hezbollah, for its part, has expressed openness to a negotiated settlement, but conditioned it entirely on Israel ending its attack on Gaza. Despite talk of a truce in Gaza, there is no sign the Israeli war there will end any time soon, and Israeli commanders have sought to emphasize their ability to fight multiple wars at once.
