On Wednesday, a group of protesters calling for a ceasefire in Gaza entered the Cannon House Office Building, a congressional office just across the street from the US Capitol Building.
The demonstration was organized by two Jewish groups, Jewish Voice for Peace and IfNotNow. Protesters inside the Cannon House wore shirts that said “Not in Our Name” and “Jews Say Ceasefire Now.”
Jewish Voice for Peace wrote on X: “While 500 Jews, rabbis, and descendants of Holocaust survivors chant ‘Let Gaza live’ and get arrested inside, a crowd of 10k sings outside. We won’t stop until our demands of a ceasefire are met!”
The number of people who attended the protest is not confirmed, but reports say at least 100 demonstrators have been arrested by Capitol Police. “Demonstrations are not allowed inside Congressional Buildings,” the US Capitol Police wrote on X. “We warned the protestors to stop demonstrating and when they did not comply we began arresting them.”
The protest came on the same day President Biden visited Israel and met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to pledge full US support for the Israeli onslaught on Gaza. Since the October 7 Hamas attack on southern Israel, over 3,000 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza amid a relentless Israeli bombardment.
It’s good that the protested and bad that they didn’t follow the rules.

Wake up Donna. I know your intentions are good. Hamas is a murderous terrorist organization that just 10 days ago murdered 1400 young people, children and seniors, raped young girls, burned innocent people and then sent videos of this to the families of their victims. Do you think that there can be peace with such a group of subhumans? Do you think the Allies should have sought “peace” with Hitler? There is no difference. Hamas has as its goal the annihilation of the Jewish people (not just Israelis BTW). See their charter.
Furthermore, unless you are careful, this is coming to America. It’s already well established in Europe and has a foothold in Canada.

Subhumans? There are no final solutions, peaceful coexistence must be built and rebuilt on the solid foundations of justice and equality. Open your mind, making peaceful revolution impossible is a lot harder than reimagining how we organize ourselves. I realize fleeing to Mars probably sounds simpler.
Please try to understand. If you read carefully, I referred to the murderers of Hamas as “subhuman”. And they are. They are in charge of Gaza. What’s more, they have the support of Gazans…for now. Jewish Voice for Peace is a progressive/left anti-Zionist group that was formed about thirty years ago and has been consisten in its positions and messaging regardless of who has been in power in DC. And why not? It’s not as if US support for almost anything Israel does changes with changing players in Washington.
