Update: POLITICO reported on Wednesday that President Biden is expected to ask Congress to authorize more Ukraine funding on Thursday
The White House is expected to formally ask Congress to authorize additional funding for the Ukraine war as soon as this week, Punchbowl News reported on Tuesday, citing sources familiar with the matter.
The funding would be in the form of an “emergency” supplemental bill that would also include money for domestic disaster relief and potentially military aid for Taiwan.
One source said the request is expected to be “north of $10 billion,” but the Biden administration is still working on setting the final number. So far, Congress has authorized $113 billion to spend on the war in Ukraine.
Financial Times previously reported that President Biden wanted to include money for Taiwan in the next Ukraine spending bill. The Punchbowl News report said Taiwan aid could be included as a “sweetener” for Republicans who might otherwise oppose more spending on the Ukraine war.
Seventy House Republicans recently voted to cut off all military assistance for Ukraine as part of a failed amendment to the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act. But the majority of Congress still favors funding the proxy war against Russia, although opposition could grow as the Ukrainian counteroffensive has been failing.
More funding? What for? Ukraine has lost the war, Ukraine is already under the bus, what more does Biden need?
Biden needs more money for his election campaign. If he lose the election, he and his son risk to end up in prison.
Perhaps he can share a cell with Trump and take up tennis.
That’s funny.
I would pay to see that tennis match
It would pretty much be two guys falling on the court.
Biden has and will have all the money he needs for his election campaign. The entire Democratic establishment and its corporate supporters are solidly behind him. If he didn’t request another dollar for Ukraine from now until November of next year, it wouldn’t create even a small risk of inadequate campaign funds.
There’s essentially no chance that Biden would end up in prison, based on anything we know now, no matter what happens in the 2024 election. Absolutely nothing he’s credibly accused of comes close to the level of criminal offense that might land a former US president behind bars.
The stupid and dangerous campaign by Dems and “liberals” in general to destroy Trump with legal weapons* will no doubt embolden Republicans, if they end up in power, to crank up their targeting of Biden, but that’s a looong way from being able to lock him up.
Hunter Biden might actually end up in prison. The fact that the Republicans are out to get him doesn’t mean that he isn’t a scuzzy slimeball who has actually violated laws that might land him in jail. I don’t approve of prison for nonviolent offenses, but I won’t be too upset if Hunter gets to mark calendar days on the wall for a while.
* Trump is clearly guilty of at least a few fairly serious criminal offenses. But those offenses don’t make him a continuing threat to the nation that would justify imprisoning a former president and triggering a sequence of tit-for-tat reprisals that could mirror the way things are done in Pakistan. And it isn’t very smart of the Dems to help Trump fire up his large and excitable base.
You seem to see the chaos produced by criminal pursuit of presidents and ex-presidents as a bug.
I see it as a feature.
In fact, I would like to see a regular, annual federal grand jury impaneled with the sole job of reviewing all presidential actions over the previous year, with any indictments sealed until that president is out of office. Let him or her spend four years worrying 24/7 about potential criminal liability.
Yes, of course you see it as a feature. You libertarians (left and right) and your anarchist cousins (left and fright) are ideologically devoted to the idea of the state as “wrong” and inherently dysfunctional. It’s OK; it takes all kinds. Of course, having a more realistic view of the real chaos that would ensue if you had things your way . . . I’m glad you don’t. 😎
I don’t regard the state as inherently dysfunctional. It’s often very good at its function. I just don’t like that function (the state’s function is to maximize its own discretionary power).
So far as chaos is concerned, states seem to be its primary agent.
I am with Thomas on this one. If the goal of the investigations were justice, then Trump and Biden would have been either in jail or acquitted long ago.
To me the investigations are our political parties bragging to non-millionaires “We are profiting hand over fist from this corruption. We get freedom and riches, you get anger.”
Huge win and bragging rights for people in the club, A club that we are not in.
That’s what the CIA is for and why all the politicians are in lockstep for the MIC. *See also the Mossad and characters like Epstein.
Reasonable. That is why it will not happen.
Fuck it ,lets go back to Bush,Clinton and Obama. They helped set the stage for present actions and behavior.
I know that if you cannot convict and jail a treasonous evil sick man we have no chance of bringing Biden up on something like RICO
Shit, if we can jail one President how about two for the price of one.
What our peerless leader needs is a campaign issue. What we need is for him to resign and cut dies with the past. It is not working for the majority of American citizens only a few.
The “peerless” leader is too demented to know it is time to resign and retire. The Democrats knew how to get rid of Al Franken but can’t deal with a demented president they put in the office in the first place?
Allegedly patting a woman on the bottom pale before the shit that Biden and his toadies are bringing upon us now.
Just put it on the card, jerk.
Wow,a credit card with no limits. I wish I could have one of those.
No card, just the bill.
Uncontrolled shovelling of budget money into Ukrainian blackhole brought the corruption of US political elite to the level never seen before. The sabotage of Minsk Agreements turned out to be devastating not only for EU and NATO but also for US political system.
But never never for the MIC and the connected rulers of America
I am pretty sure that the warmongers would not agree.
“Uncontrolled shovelling of budget money into Ukrainian blackhole brought
the corruption of US political elite to the level never seen before.”
I’m afraid that’s not true. In fact, nothing publicly known about the flows of money associated with US support for its proxy in this war is consistent with “corruption” in the usual understanding of that term in US politics. I’m sure there’s plenty of associated corruption, but it’s still in the deep shadows and it’s not likely that it exceeds the corruption that has typified our political class for as long as it has existed.
Examples that come immediately to mind:
It was routine, even in the years before the Revolution, for American politicians to spend serious money bribing voters to ensure electoral success. When running for a seat in the Virginia legislature, a couple of decades before the Revolution, Washington spent the equivalent of thousands of dollars on food and booze distributed on election day.
In the year after the Constitution was ratified, the Georgia legislature authorized sales of large tracts of public land to speculators, at “special” reduced prices. It turned out that all the legislators who voted for the sale owned stock in the speculator companies.
For the first century after independence, it was normal and legal for elected officials to award jobs to supporters and relatives of supporters — the “spoils system.” Later on, it became illegal, but it continued (and to some extend still continues) to be normal.
In the 1860s, Union Pacific was building the eastern part of what became the transcontinental railway. The Union Pacific bosses created a separate company to do the actual construction work. That company billed the railroad twice as much as construction cost and the bosses pocketed the big bucks. The crooked bosses then used some of that money to bribe Washington politicians to pass laws that made Union Pacific even richer, including giving it immense amounts of land along the railroad rights-of-way that it could sell to farmers and the people settling towns along the route. The construction company and the scandal were called Crédit Mobilier
In the 1870s, President Grant appointed one of his buddies, John McDonald, to a Treasury Department position in St. Louis — and assigned him the task of raising campaign money for Grant and other Republican politicians. McDonald and a bunch of other government officials ran a scheme to skim money — lots of it — from taxes on liquor sales to distribute to favored candidates and to put in their own and their friends’ pockets. Just Google the “Whiskey Ring.”
In the 1920s, the federal government owned some big oil fields that were to be used to make sure the Navy had adequate fuel. When those fields came under control of the Interior Department, Secretary of the Interior Fall gave leases on the fields, on super-generous terms, to a couple of oil companies. In exchange, the oil company honchos gave Fall “gifts” to the tune of millions of 21st-century dollars. “Teapot Dome.”
The list is endless. In DC and America’s statehouses, Corruption R US.
“The sabotage of Minsk Agreements turned out to be devastating not only for EU and NATO but also for US political system.”
I don’t think the sabotage of the Minsk Agreements has had much effect on the US political system. Events associated with Ukraine, Russia, Biden and Trump have been features of the rapid disintegration of the system in recent years, but I don’t think Minsk itself has been a factor at all.
Operation Money launder will continue for as long as it takes Ukraine to “win”, and by win I mean, run out men to fight with and need enough “reconstruction” so that Operation Endless Reconstruction Money launder can commence. You wouldn’t want to end the first grift until the second grift is set up and ready to rock and roll.
Looks like we might be getting closer to that day but my contacts at Black-Rock and Vanguard ain’t what they used to be (lol), so hard to say if all the contracts have been signed yet or not. I assume the same grift is set up and ready to go North of the border as well or will be soon enough. How soon? Depends on how much of the old stock of weapons they both have, gotta get them blown up first too. Timing is everything when it comes to war profiteering, the dollar ain’t worth what it used to be after all.
Keep in mind part of the the Reconstruction grift will be rebuilding two giant cold war machines, can’t forget about cold war 2.0, the grift that will keep on grifting, forever and ever and ever, or until death do we part.
Trump and Biden are both grifters. The difference is only that Trump works for himself and Biden works for his string pullers who profit from killing people whether in the US or Ukraine.
Well, no worry, it looks as if Poland is about ready to sacrifice a bunch of its own people.
Here’s a better idea. Just send everything. Send it all and send our children to die and then let’s get started on the nukes. Let’s get it over with. Show some spine. Let’s all die! Show some balls, Victoria Nuland! (Bad taste sarcasm)
Like Arnold said to the Predator at the end of that move, “do it,it’s right thea” Tie Nuland to the first nuke ala Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove. It will be a scream…………………
Throwing one of the favorite Neocon phrases back at her: She “doesn’t have the stomach for it” ? 😉
lol
Exactly!
Joe Biden is not only senile but he’s utterly insane. The waste of human lives and borrowed money is mind-boggling.
there you go again insulting people with mental issues.
LOL
Joe Biden is The Greatest of The Great of the US Democracy in Full DAZZLING Splendour.
That is all.
The New York Post is framing all this money spent as 2 complete border walls today.
That’s some perspective on how much money has been wasted (if you call DC McMansions wasted, others call it the Military Industrial complex in nod to nostalgia).
Why not authorize more funds for the stupid war? It’s only money, and becoming more worthless by the day.
Can’t find the exact clip from the movie Aliens, but there’s a line which characterizes the “thinking” in the Biden WH that fits to a tee, which begins with words to the effect: “Sir, this place is dead. Whatever happened here is gone”
(or words to this effect).
Fleecing the US taxpayer and burying the empire in debt.
My disgust with the country I was born in only grows with each ask for more weaponry by these oafs.
The US political system of checks and balances is dead, having been replaced by the system of credit and debit cards – and endless waste brought to us by the Departments of Death and Chaos.
A “Christian” nation that ignored the limit of charges to 10%, but accepts 27.9%. If the “Christians” so revere the Bible, then I would think they would be screaming about the bank charges.
Hey Joe, I heard you shot your country down…. guitar strumming in background…
A little off topic but Dementia Joe was talking about the ‘nine’ wonders of the world at the Grand Canyon. I guess he must be talking about Ukraine and China as the 8th and 9th wonders for him with all the money he has taken from them. https://www.msn.com/en-us/travel/news/watch-biden-claims-grand-canyon-is-one-of-the-nine-wonders-of-the-world-in-latest-gaffe/ar-AA1eYoNZ
Poor Joe didn’t even know where he was at the time ……
Congress gives the “Middle Finger” to the USA citizen and taxpayer! Purge Baby Purge!
Amen!
And, here it is. The Neocons who represent the American MIC / Corporatocracy steal our cash via taxes including the inflation tax (from all the money already printed out of thin air) and funnel it to weapons manufacturers making billions in profits from selling their killing machines. This graft MUST stop. Collectivists and Neocons are tearing these United States apart.
We need a regime change badly. NATO is no help, they too are in the hands of criminals.
Biden or better Nuland and the band around them will not rest until he gets his war with Russia and China.
To be bland, only an idiot would pronounce that Russia lost the war, implying that Ukraine won the war, and then wants more money for the victor who is already under the bus to go on fighting AFTER the victory. If anyone needs a regime change, it is us, the USA.
