The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said Wednesday that its inspectors have seen no sign of explosives at the Russian-controlled Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in Ukraine despite claims from Kyiv that Russia had planted bombs.
According to an IAEA press release, Director-General Rafael Grossi said the agency’s experts “have in recent days and weeks inspected parts of the facility — including some sections of the perimeter of the large cooling pond — and have also conducted regular walk-downs across the site, so far without observing any visible indications of mines or explosives.”
The press release said Grossi has requested more access to the ZNPP, specifically the “rooftops of reactor units 3 and 4 is essential, as well as access to parts of the turbine halls and some parts of the cooling system at the plant.”
Grossi said with “military tension and activities increasing in the region where this major nuclear power plant is located, our experts must be able to verify the facts on the ground. Their independent and objective reporting would help clarify the current situation at the site, which is crucial at a time like this with unconfirmed allegations and counter allegations.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed on Tuesday that Russia planted explosives at the ZNPP. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said an attack could happen in the “near future” and claimed Russia would try to make it look like the damage to the plant was caused by Ukrainian shelling.
Russian officials are now accusing Ukraine of plotting to blow up the facility using a dirty bomb. The Kremlin said Wednesday that the risk of Ukraine carrying out a sabotage attack at the ZNPP was “really high.”
The ZNPP is in Ukraine’s southern Zaporizhzhia Oblast and has been controlled by Russian forces since March 2022. It has been the scene of fighting throughout the war as Ukraine launched failed attacks on the plant to recapture the facility last fall. At the time, Ukraine blamed shelling on the Russian-controlled plant on Russian forces.
They keep asking us to believe that the Russians will continue blowing up things they either control, or own. We know all governments lie, but the Ukrainians have ceased to even be good liars.
No one is asking you to believe sh!t. You choose to believe Russia is a saint and disagree with whoever tells you otherwise.
Russia is no saint, a saint will continue to turn the other cheek until they become martyrs. Russia turned the other cheek many times, but really, there are only two cheeks, or four if you count the ones behind us. Russia turned all four.
You walked past the part where I said all governments lie. I have condemned Russia’s invasion anytime the issue has come up, and I have called for an immediate ceasefire on both sides with a negotiated settlement to all outstanding issues. So, there’s that.
More to the point, no rational actor would ever consider blowing up a nuclear facility and spewing radiation everywhere. All of this is a question of credibility. The one who would consider such a move is typically the more desperate, and that is clearly Ukraine. They have at every opportunity tried to escalate US/NATO involvement, i.e. the errant missile in Poland. Then there is the previous Nord Stream pipeline bombing clearly done, at a minimum, with US approval. Then there is the desire of Ukraine to receive and use more advanced US weaponry ever deeper in Russia. All the credible logic points to Ukraine in this.
That said, I would not put it past any state actor to commit such a heinous act, as nothing seems to be too heinous for government. I won’t even put it past you to shill for one malevolent government over the other as you clearly are a dependable US imperial tool. Peace Now!
A negotiated peace agreement was in the offing, but, we and the UK stopped the efforts.
What we do know for certain is that the “war” lobby in the USA is looking for any pretext to force us into WWIII. A bipartisan resolution promoted by GOP South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham and Democratic Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal on June 22nd in effect states that if the Zaporozyhe nuclear power plant, FOR WHATEVER REASON, becomes the source of a major leak, then the NATO Article 5 will be invoked as a direct attack against NATO Europe. That will be the end of the USA as we know it and the beginning of God only knows what.
I agree that Graham’s & Blumenthal’s proposal was transparent and appalling all at the same time. Talk about moral hazard!
Anyone with half a brain can sniff the real rat here. If this plant is attacked it won’t be by the Russians. Just as it wasn’t the Russians who blew up Nord stream or the Dniper river Dam.
Finally someone with real evidence in defense of Russia.
BTW, why would Ukraine create a nuclear catastrophe in the heart of their land?
Let that open up your thinking aperture.
Why would Ukraine’s defense minister say that testing western weapons in Ukraine is “ideal”? Why would Ukraine want to use depleted uranium in their own country? Why would Ukraine do a doomed counteroffensive for the sole purpose of garnering more aid? It seems their people and their land has been a low priority from the very start.
That’s because the main driver for this conflict is actually the US neocon hatred for Russia, Ukraine, and the USA.
You can add to ‘neocon’ another group also.
“IAEA Says No Sign of Explosives at Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Plant Ukraine has been claiming that Russia planted explosives at the Russian-controlled plant”
Of course not: Ukraine is composed of corrupt criminals who are liars.
The Ukraine leadership is definitely “composed of corrupt criminals who are liars.” Unfortunately, our country’s leadership is not better. I think it must be a requirement for the job. Which brings me to my second thought. Are “corrupt criminals who are liars” smart or stupid? I’m leaning toward stupid. (Sarcasm)
The Russkys just love to destroy things, just like the pipeline and the dam so they will lose money and flood their own territory. What a crock Wash. is.
“State is the name of the coldest of all cold
monsters. Coldly it lies; and this lie slips from its mouth: ‘I, the
state, am the people.” –Nietzsche (just so you know)
Some one should take out Zelensky before he dose some thing Europe will regret , the man is out of control .
You’d think that Chernobyl ( which was in Ukraine) would have been enough. The ways in which the plant operators died via radiation poisoning is enough to make one weep.
Yet ZelBoy undoubtably is plotting a false-flag attack on the facility. He has no fear; his own safety is guaranteed. But the delusional sociopath who actually believes that
he can recover Crimea will stop at nothing to retain the support of the equally sociopathic West.
I’d like to shake him ‘til his johnson falls off.
I’ve heard tell he has a home in Florida, but I don’t see why he’d need one. After all, he lives rent-free in your head.
Mr. T, I am presently shaking my head furiously until I can eject him from my left ear.
