On Thursday, the FBI arrested a 21-year-old member of the Massachusetts Air National Guard as the suspected leaker of the classified documents from the Pentagon and other US government agencies that have surfaced online.
Jack Teixeira was first named before the arrest as the potential leaker by The New York Times. The paper conducted an investigation with the website Bellingcat, which is funded by the EU and often praised by US intelligence officials, to identify the leaker.
According to the Times report, the paper discussed Teixeira with US government officials and asked for a comment from the FBI before the agency made his name public.
“Today, the Justice Department arrested Jack Douglas Teixeira in connection with an investigation into alleged unauthorized removal, retention, and transmission of classified national defense information. Teixeira is an employee of the United States Air Force National Guard,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said after the arrest.
Teixeira is a member of the intelligence wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard, but it’s not clear how the young airman would have access to so many top-secret documents. According to the Times, he was promoted to airman first class last July, the third enlisted rank.
He worked for the Massachusetts Air National Guard’s 102nd Intelligence Wing, which is located at a base in Cape Cod. His job title was a Cyber Transport Systems Journeymen, which entails repairing communications equipment.
Teixeira is accused of posting the documents on a server on Discord, a messaging platform mainly used by gamers. The chat where he was sending the documents was private and had about 25 members, a group of young men and teenage boys.
One member of the Discord server was said to start releasing the documents in other chat rooms in March, and the documents were eventually discovered by the Times. According to The Washington Post, there were 300 photos of documents that Teixeira allegedly posted.
A 17-year-old who was a member of the Discord server and spoke to the Times described the person who allegedly leaked the documents as “antiwar” and a “Christian” who just “wanted to inform some of his friends about what’s going on.”
I see a book deal in Teixeira’s future….
At this point I’m so disillusioned with the corporate media that even if they say openly that some documents were leaked and they found the “guy”, I’m more inclined to believe it was a controlled information “leak” and they just found some random guy off the street to scape goat
Jeez, they have already convicted the guy in the press/public.
Does no one follow ‘presumption of innocence’ any longer?
I will assume he did it when he is convicted.
Not before.
“Presumption of innocence” is a legal principle for use in court, not a moral stricture on people reaching whatever conclusions they want to reach, for whatever reasons they deem sufficient.
Well DUH.
Anyone can reach personal conclusions about anything.
I am not talking about that.
I am talking about people in public/MSM with little to no hard facts making blanket decisions about a persons guilt or innocence. And then treating that person as guilty or innocent, SOLELY on the basis of that ignorant and childish decision.
If you do not see the difference?
Then you are as ignorant as you are troll-like.
We are done here.
I am well aware of your posts around here.
You appear to argue for sport. To stir up shit for fun.
You are a troll.
And I try not to waste time on trolls.
Good day.
It’s not the media’s obligation to presume innocence.
It’s the jury’s.
Feel free to not waste time on my posts if you don’t want to. If we’re being honest here, I only waste my time on yours because it’s my job.
I wasn’t talking solely about the media.
And either you know that or you should.
I was talking about the masses making assumptions on next to zero facts.
And I was talking about the MSM deliberately hyping stories to make ad revenue.
As there is far more ad revenue in inferring this guy is guilty. Than inferring the guy is nothing but a ‘suspect’.
As for your job?
One definition of ‘moderator’ is: ‘the nonpartisan presiding officer of a town meeting’
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/moderator
That does NOT sound like you.
You typed the following above: ‘Says the pro-war guy with the pro-war avatar graphic.’
That is pure, ad hominem.
The calling card of a troll.
And since I try not to waste time on trolls?
We are done here…for now.
Have a nice day.
The job of a “moderator” here is to enforce certain guidelines against e.g. spam and hate speech. This comment section is not an organizational meeting and requires no one to preside over it.
That’s OK, though. You’re far from the first to find himself out of real arguments and play the “but the moddddddderatorrrrr should be neuuuuuuuuutral” card.
Knapp is cool. He takes shit and he gives it. But I think you’ve misread his comment here.
One man’s cool is another man’s troll.
I see nothing cool about his posts.
Some are okay.
Most seem designed to stir up excrement.
Imo?
He is a troll who happens to be a mod.
But I could be wrong.
We shall see.
What I like about him is that he’s on nobodies’ side. You can upvote him, downvote him, praise him or call him a condescending jerk and he don’t care. He’s fucking Fonzie!
AAAAAAAAAYYYYY …
… flattery will get you nowhere, but only because there’s really nowhere to get.
And that was exactly my point.
No kidding.
I am not talking about people reaching personal assumptions about issues – whilst keeping an open mind on said issue.
I am talking about people – on the basis of zero, unbiased, proven facts/data? Making blanket decisions about a human being’s guilt. And then – often forever more – assuming that person is guilty of said crime. Sometimes even after the courts have decided otherwise.
And if enough people convict this person without evidence? It can destroy a persons life.
If you cannot see this is wrong?
Then you are a pitiful person in this regard, imo.
Good day.
Jeez, they have already convicted the guy in the press/public.
Does no one follow ‘presumption of innocence’ any longer?
I will assume he did it when he is convicted.
Not before.
This is like the rush to judgement regarding the sailor accused of “sabotage” in the Iowa turret explosion. Nothing ever proven. If this guy did anything, it’s serving as a conduit between the actual leaker and the website where the stuff was posted. To suggest that a part-time air force AFC had access to, and could actually steal, reams of highly classified documents is far more an indictment of our national security apparatus than it is of him, and while I believe they are in fact, from top to bottom, a bunch of dishonest, incompetent clowns, even I find this hard to believe.
I sincerely HOPE and PRAY the leaks keep coming.
I as well Javy.
Murkins have the right to know what our sneaky, dishonest guvvmint is up to.
21 year old, Too young to sacrifice himself. For what? Or just young and foolish, thinking it is all a game, One cannot help but feeling sorry for the life thrown away,
On a good note, Security State can’t BS the leak was a Russian disinformation.
Surprised they haven’t already tried….
but it’s not clear how the (21 years) young airmen would have access to so many top-secret documents
maybe this guy’s passport was found on the sidewalk outside of the classified documents office at the pentagon. way to go NSA!
lol
ok i just saw on TV Newsnation Cuomo show that the 21 year-old pentagon classified documents leaker guy is “very anti-semitic”.
LOL the poor guy looks like Opie Taylor from Andy Griffith Show.
How is it that a 21 year old kid from a State National Guard Unit has access to sensitive information like this? Something doesn’t add up.
Punished for his diabolical plan and motive to tell the truth.
In the Empire of Lies, telling the truth is treason.
Its all smoke and mirrors. Everything that was “leaked” we already knew. So these are documents for suckers.
Fall guy for a fake leak I presume.
Washington Post is now reporting the leaks contained evidence that China is secretly supplying arms to Russia. Watch; they’ll use the leaks as an excuse to start yet another war.
Wouldn’t you know it? He was a Christian, a White Supremacist, and a gun enthusiast.
It is hard too imagine those three things going together, without adding in potential mental illness…
I forgot to add that he is anti-semitic too.
The epitome of pure evil, for sure. Let’s just hang the MF and skip the trial.
Marjorie Greene says: He told the truth, and that makes him an enemy of the Biden Regime. Who is the real enemy here?
I do not think that this is going away anytime soon.
Red has motivated me to do more research on this.
Comments are VERY emotional in the US, and yet the official narrative does not feel right to me.
It is definitely looking like the democratic party will be switching to the role of maximizing our military, while the republican party will have a faction that is anti-war.
The cold hatred (of the leaker) that this event seems to be generating – FWD’S comments here are very very mild compared to what is being written on other forums – will likely be channeled to other targets over time. New surveillance bills in Congress should sail through to passage.
We will likely never know the real story.
The best article I read I found on Counterpunch. The gist is that the information in these leaks is definitely not Top Secret worthy, as evidenced by the fact that the leaker was able to walk out with photos of it and not be found out. The article recommended jail time for the people who classified this material as Top Secret.
I agree, which, oops, means that basically my position is not far from Greene’s Who is the real enemy here???
If I understand correctly, part of the content of the leaks is basically the following:
When Biden, and others, say we are winning in Ukraine … well they are lying. We are not winning.
Did you happen to notice who wrote that article?
I did 🙂
Your article was written much better than my summary of it. I am thankful that I checked out so many different sources before reading it as they all supported your main thesis in their own way.
Thank you for writing that article.
Thanks for enjoying/recommending it!
The Biden administration is looking at expanding how it monitors social media sites and chatrooms after U.S. intelligence agencies failed to spot classified Pentagon documents circulating online for weeks.
Its all smoke and mirrors. Everything that was “leaked” we already knew. So these are documents for suckers.
The New York Times worked together with a government funded operation to out the leaker….
Watergate is so in the past.
The American Left, represented by the NYT, is no longer fighting the “Man” because they are the Man (albeit a senile one).
Now they are demanding more government monitoring of the population.
In other news:
Biden lied to us about the Chinese surveillance craft; there were at least 4 instances of these craft hovering/maneuvering over areas a civilian plane would have been in serious Schiff it had strayed over.
These documents show Lloyd Austin lied at his congressional testimony. That’s a felony under the law.
They are mostly assessments contradicting public face Biden, and his underlings put on the war in Ukraine. There are not much real intelligence in them. Essentially, they show Ukraine is losing, and that there is no escape. But, Biden and his underlings want the war to continue for as long as there is a Ukraine. In their mind, it would be good for military industrial complex, their pocket books, election donation, and potentially weaken Russia.
The government should be forced to explain how knowledge of the gossip in these silly documents affect national security, when we know it is the fault of the suffering military that real citizen economic security suffers from the insane and expensive Pentagon programs intended to maximize profits in the name of “national security.”
