Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov warned on Wednesday that Russia is working on new ways to disrupt Western arms supplies to Ukraine, signaling that Russia will start targeting more Ukrainian infrastructure.
“We observe that Ukraine is receiving more and more and better Western weapons,” Lavrov said in an interview on Russian TV, according to Al Jazeera. He said strikes on “railway lines, bridges and tunnels” are being considered.
Russia has been pounding Ukrainian energy infrastructure since October, leaving millions of Ukrainians without power and heat for the winter. But Lavrov’s comments suggest that Russia will be hitting other types of infrastructure.
The Russian diplomat said that the strikes on Ukraine’s energy grid have already helped disrupt the supply of weapons but added that more will be done. “And I am convinced that there are other plans being applied in this regard,” he said.
Lavrov and other Russian officials have stressed that more US and other Western military aid will escalate and drag out the war.
On Thursday, Russia launched another barrage on Ukraine’s power grid, striking targets with missiles and drones. Ukraine’s Defense Ministry suggested that it was one of the heaviest Russian barrages in the war, writing on Twitter that “Russia had been saving one of the most massive missile attacks since the beginning of the full-scale invasion for the last days of the year.”
Russia’s barrages on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure began after the truck bombing of the Kerch Bridge, which connects Crimea to the Russian mainland. In recent weeks, Ukraine has stepped up drone attacks deep inside Russia, and Moscow has stepped up its bombardment.

There is a good chance that this prediction comes true. It will be tough for the US to get Russia to annex the western third of Ukraine due to the large reconstruction costs associated with that, but with adequate pressure we might be able to make it happen.
Most likely, though. Russia will be rebuilding essentially the pro-Russian eastern side, while US corporations will own and control the anti-Russian western side.
And then, as you said, peace will happen. The remaining part of the war is the fight for the new US-Russian boundaries.
And yeah – we won’t OFFICIALLY annex it. Part of US propaganda is that annexing is a bad thing. US corporations will cooperate to control whatever government emerges there.
Russia will be rebuilding all of Ukraine and probably also former Warsaw Alliance counties. After they are liberated from Anglo-American occupation.

Yes, the US figured out, after WWII, how to exert force and maintain imperial power without owning the colonies the way that European countries had done. It’s analogous to owning the land and employing sharecroppers to farm it instead of owning slaves along with the land. The landowner (or center of the empire) gets the benefit of the labor without the bother and hazards of owning the laborers. The US empire calls it by the code phrase “spreading development and liberal democracy”. Translation: permanent indebtedness to international lenders and sacrifice of national sovereignty in the service of corporate capitalism.

That’s the trouble with Kremlin. They are are too damn nice and continue to nurture hope of peaceful negotiations. Same with Beijing.
What they need to understand is these barbarians only understand and respect the language of brute force. They should have at least take a look at how Persians deal with Anglo-American aggression. They should have not only destroyed everything sent into Ukraine, they should have shot down anything flying into Europe or Asia from the US. Totally agree. The only reasons I can come up with that they haven’t, are that they’re depleting NATO of its weapons, and also they want to see what new weapons NATO has so they can capture or learn how to counter them.

My largest concern is that any increase or escalation could potentially put us in direct conflict with Russia and everyone knows what that would mean. Where are the peacemakers?…. Folks, I disagree with anyone providing military advice to Putin. Putin is a thug. Russia’s attack was disgusting and incompetent, period. The only question I have: “Is US policy helping us get to the end of this war?” I believe the answer is a clear no. The US should be pushing for peace, but Congress ONLY focussed on arms deals.
