One civilian was killed, another eight people were wounded, and a poultry farm was damaged in Ukrainian shelling in Russia’s Belgorod Oblast, the region’s governor said on Sunday.
“One person died. It is known that the man came to us from Tambov and worked as a contractor on the construction of a poultry farm,” Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov wrote on Telegram.
Belgorod borders Ukraine and has come under attack throughout the war. Sunday’s shelling came after The Times reported that the Pentagon now tacitly backs Ukrainian strikes inside Russian territory, although there’s no indication US weapons were used in the attack on Belgorod.
When the US provided the HIMARS rocket launch systems to Ukraine, the Biden administration said it received “assurances” that Ukrainian forces won’t use them inside Russian territory. But the US no longer appears to be concerned about how the weapons are used.
“When we give them a weapon system, it belongs to them, where they use it, how they use it, how much ammunition they use to use that system. I mean, those are Ukrainian decisions, and we respect that,” National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said last week.
The Times report said that the US was no longer concerned about Ukrainian attacks inside Russia leading to a major escalation based only on the fact that Moscow hasn’t yet responded with nuclear weapons or attacks on NATO countries.
“The Biden administration said it received “assurances” that Ukrainian forces won’t use them inside Russian territory” segues into “When we give them a weapon system, it belongs to them, where they use it, how they use it.” Just ignore what you told a month ago.
One learns not to trust the US government. Many governments and their peoples have learned this valuable lesson.
At their closest point. Alaska is 55 miles away from Russia. Suppose a rocket launch of a satellite from Russia were to malfunction and land somewhere in Alaska, say, Sitka. Accidents do happen.
Except satellites are launched much closer to equator and nowhere near Alaska.
“The Times report said that the US was no longer concerned about Ukrainian attacks inside Russia leading to a major escalation based only on the fact that Moscow hasn’t yet responded with nuclear weapons or attacks on NATO countries.”
Now there is some well thought out brilliance. /s
The mind reels at the extraordinary logic in use by these masters of planet Earth!
So my government is infested with liars and creeps. Nothing new there.
So who claimed this was a HIMARS strike? I see no quote attributed to anybody. A poultry farm seems like a pretty chickenshit target for such valuable munitions. It looks like halfway through the article it switches from some fact based reporting to editorializing.
It’s Dave DeCamp style. He always some how manages to turn Ukraine into the bad guys.
People who found wreckage of HIMARS rockets. That’s what your terrorists friends are doing with weapons you give them. Kill civilians and the reason Russians can’t destroy many of them because they use cars on highways for cover. They specifically wait for traffic to accumulate before attacking.
So the article didn’t mention anything like that. I would expect for example “the Russian ministry of Truth, has identified the source of the explosion as an American HIMARS attack on innocent chickens” They switch into a discussion of HiMARs with no apparent connection to the first half of the article. It is poorly written.
That’s because your propaganda don’t report on HIMARs being used to kill civilians in Donetsk. Everyone else outside your little censorship bubble already have all the facts.
Poorly written is poorly written. Anyway sorry about those chickens
Sure, whatever…
And don’t pretend you’d care if the same weapons destroyed some ranch in California.
I dunno depends who’s ranch, Devin Nune’s ranch ( I think it is in Iowa) have at it, but as a Russian asset he is probably off limits
Russians must be having a party about all them American assets being killed in Ukraine. 100.000 officers. wow!
I thought traffic wasn’t as bad as usual. Do you honestly believe that? That is great, cause so long at the Russians have hope they will allow themselves to be slaughtered by the Ukrainians with a little help from NATO. An honest piece of advice, it is hopeless, Russia is facing 5X the population and 20X the economy their best option is to retreat to the internationally recognized borders and preserve as much of their military as they can. Either way the American objective has been achieved Russias military has been wrecked and Russia won’t be a problem for a generation or more.
lol, sure johnny. Keep that ‘exceptionalist’ hope alive. You can get hollywood to create some more propaganda about your military and economic superiority. Or pass another inflation reduction act. You’re the greatest, Capstan America. click-click
This is really comforting John Kirby, thanks for putting us all at risk for a nuclear holocaust so you can cash in on your forever wars.
In different news, Russia has indiscriminately shelled all regions of Ukraine killing thousands of civilians with all kinds of weapons in their arsenal excluding Nukes.
This is a joke right?
Russia shoots a multitude of missiles to destroy Ukrainian infrastructure/cities killing hundreds if not thousands of citizens, and then has the audacity to whine when a few of their own people get whacked .
I am sad. NOT!
