Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday addressed the summit of G20 leaders in Indonesia via video link and told the group not to ask Ukraine to compromise to reach a peace deal with Russia.
Zelensky referred to the group as the “G19” in a snub aimed at Russia, as Moscow is a member of the G20. “Ukraine should not be offered to conclude compromises with its conscience, sovereignty, territory and independence. We respect the rules and we are people of our word,” the Ukrainian leader said, according to POLITICO.
Zelensky said that there would be no “Minsk 3,” referring to Minsk 1 and Minsk 2, agreements that failed to end the civil war in Ukraine’s eastern Donbas region. The war in the Donbas was sparked by the US-backed 2014 coup that ousted former President Viktor Yanukovych. In response to the change in power, separatists in the Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts of the Donbas declared independence from Kyiv.
Under the Minsk agreements that were brokered by France and Germany, Kyiv agreed to cede autonomy to the Donbas separatists and the territory would remain a part of Ukraine, but the accord was never fully implemented. In response to Zelensky’s speech, the Kremlin said that his comments that there will be no “Minsk 3” show that he’s not serious about negotiating.
Zelensky’s speech came after Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley said that this winter will provide an opportunity for peace talks that should be “seized.” But other members of the Biden administration don’t agree with Milley, and the US reportedly assured Ukraine that peace talks with Russia don’t need to happen.
There has been more talk of diplomacy since Russia withdrew from the southern Ukrainian city of Kherson. But Ukrainian officials say they want to expel Russia from all of the territory it has captured, including Crimea, which Moscow has controlled since 2014.

Uh- huh. Ukraine, on the other hand, would barely make the cut if there were a meeting of the G56. Its economy. before the war, was a bit larger than Algeria’s.
Before Anglo-American occupation, Ukraine was doing pretty good. They actually had a deflation according to World Bank data. The parasites hate that because it make people richer.
But wait! Think of all the prosperity that has been brought to countries like Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Libya…
The most dangerous words a country can hear from Western governments are: “We’ve come to help you.”
Haiti has said for us to please not come. Please!
Haiti is showing common sense. But, of course, their betters in the USA know what will benefit the Hatians.
Kind of, well, racist!
They did better in cooperation with Russia versus the EU, I’ve read.
Indeed, Ukraine’s economy tanked after the 2014 coup
I can’t quite understand why Zelensky was even given a microphone at this event.
They gave Biden one didn’t they?
maybe trump deserves one as well
For the same reason he was on the grammys or every other opportunity to blast propaganda?
Or maybe his and his wife’s Vogue shoot.
Why are we listening to this clown that has sold out to the Nazi’s and banned all political opposition? His bodyguards are from the Azov battalion… Somehow real Nazi’s are the “freedom fighters” of this day and age, just like Bin Laden was glorified back in the 90’s in Afghanistan…. (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/long_reads/robert-fisk-osama-bin-laden-interview-sudan-1993-b1562374.html) We really learn nothing from history. Neocon ideology is a plague.
Bin Laden was a good fighter against the Soviets in Afghanistan, why would you complain about that? Then he took up fighting again, even though he knew it would lead to his death, because of the starvation sanctions against Iraq that killed 500,000 children, which Madeleine Albright said was “worth it”.
Bin Laden repeatedly said that he didn’t fight against the American people but against the establishment in Washington. That was a message the media made sure you wouldn’t hear.
Zelensky Tells ‘G19’ Leaders
you tell ’em boss
“we are people of our word,” the Ukrainian leader said, according to POLITICO.
Like his campaign promises?
Winter won’t provide an opportunity to negotiate so much as an incentive to negotiate… Talk or freeze to death.
France &Germany” [prior Macron & Angela Merkel administration], Belarus (prior to attempted color revolution).”. Until Washington’s oil price cap falls flat-on-its-face, unfortunately the conflict will continue. The major question mark is will Ukraine grain ships be blown apart like oil tankers where in the Iran-Iraq war causing Ukraine to be a bigger economic burden or not.
“Ukraine should not be offered to conclude compromises with its conscience, sovereignty, territory and independence. We respect the rules and we are people of our word . . ”
If only Big Z would honor this commitment to Ukraine’s own citizens Russia wouldn’t be in the Ukraine! Z has sold out the Ukrainians to a bunch of war mongering criminals!
Don’t know why they keep thinking winter means a halt in fighting. Russia will have finished their training and deployment of all reservists a few weeks from now. And they have always done well in winter war. It’s something they always prepare for. They have preserved their forces for the last two months, pulling back to better defense positions, all in preparation for this offensive. It’s coming.
I think it’s safe to say that nobody does winter better than the Russians, who practically invented winter.
“Zelensky…told” G20 “not to ask Ukraine to compromise to reach a peace deal with Russia.”
Definitely! Yr the boss, lil’ cuz – telling ya y’wouldn’t be in NATO? Last time we lay down the law.
That and telling ya not to negotiate a peace in March – but, hey, you unnerstand – ‘bigger than Ukraine’ and all.
That and telling ya to STFU about not negotiating if Putin’s in power. But that was definitely the last we will tell ya what to do. Scout’s honor. C’maaaahn – pinky pledge! We good, bro?
“The authorities of the Lviv region said that the restoration of energy facilities in the region will take up to a year”
It’s not difficult to imagine the massive flows of Ukrainians into Poland, Moldova, and Greater Europe where energy is “relatively abundant.”
Well, whether he knows it or not, compromises are a part of detente. Idiot.
“This is a profanation”: how Russia reacted to Kyiv’s position on possible negotiations
“Ukraine should not be offered to conclude compromises with its conscience, sovereignty, territory and independence….”
then you will just have to surrender, Volodymyr, you’ll have to surrender!
And that date is coming up pretty soon
There’s something of a Russian saying: “If you don’t want to talk to Lavrov (foreign minster), then you’ll have to talk to Shoigu (Defense minister)
Zelenski should have cut a deal in March, when he had a chance. But he was severely pressured by the UK and USA to say no, and continue this terrible war
