Three Injured in Rocket Attack on US Embassy in Baghdad

Rockets hit residential complex in the Green Zone

The US Embassy in Baghdad reported on Thursday that it came under attack, with rockets fired into the area in the Baghdad Green Zone. Three civilians were reported injured, including two children.

At least four rockets entered the area, hitting a school and residential complex. The embassy defense system was reported to have activated, though there is no report any of the rockets were shot down.

The rockets were fired from a nearby neighborhood. It’s not clear who launched the rockets, and there has been no claim of responsibility.

Recent US reactions to rocket fire have almost universally been to blame Shi’ite militias in Iraq, and while there is as yet no official reaction, that, and the implication of Iranian involvement, tends to be the safe bet.
