Saudi Coalition Says 115 Houthis Killed in Yemen’s Maarib

14 military vehicles destroyed in attack

Tuesday saw another round of Saudi airstrikes against Houthis in and around the Yemeni city of Maarib. The strikes killed at least 115 Houthis, and destroyed 14 military vehicles.

The Houthis didn’t comment on the strikes, but did say that they will continue to advance on Maarib, which they have virtually surrounded at this point. Those inside the city are anticipating a siege.

Maarib and the immediate surroundings have around 3 million people within, many of them internally displaced from other areas of fighting in Central Yemen. This will be a struggle for whoever controls the city, as they will be responsible for feeding a large population of refugees.

Fighting has been ongoing since February, with more and more reinforcements sent by both sides, with an eye toward what is called the “oil-rich” city of Maarib. In reality, Maarib is as poor as the rest of Yemen, and that oil revenue is barely anything at all.
