Israeli Planes Strike Syrian Town in Second Attack of the Week

Syria says most of the missiles were shot down

by | Jul 21, 2021

Still assessing the damage from Israel’s Monday night attack on Aleppo, Syria is facing Israeli missile fire again, this time targeting the town of al-Qusayr, near Homs. Early reports again are that air defenses intercepted most of the missiles.

Something was hit in the strikes, with locals reporting explosions. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said they believed Israel was targeting Hezbollah sites. Qusayr is not far from the Lebanon border, and might have a Hezbollah presence.

The Israeli warplanes fired into the area from north of Beirut. It is common for Israel to use Lebanese airspace to target Syria. Israel attacks targets in Syria extremely often, though generally does not comment on why.

This was true again this evening, with Israel citing a policy of not commenting on attacks which were initially reported in foreign media outlets.
