Speaking to the Senate today, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin confirmed that the US is planning to send a budget request to Congress to pay for a new round of Iron Dome systems for Israel. Israel used virtually all of their existing systems during this summer’s recent war on Gaza.
President Biden and US State Department officials had initially reported this during Israeli diplomatic visits, saying this would be in the form of a $1 billion funding request, expected to be broadly supported by both parties in Congress.
Israel has long hyped the effectiveness of the Iron Dome at intercepting very short-range, low-yield rockets. There has been some debate as to whether Israel’s printed success figures are accurate or overstated. Either way, the US has been more than willing to pay for the program.
Austin did not indicate when the request for funding will come, but Israel is likely to push for it soon, as they are already watching tensions with the Gaza Strip rise again, and some Israeli military officials have talked up more fighting to come.
Why don’t we just establish a permanent category for the US Budget, called Bribes – those funds dedicated to non US interests, specifically earmarked for foreign interests that directly leads to campaign contributions for money-grubbing American politicians. We could call it – “The Joe Manchin Fund”.
I thought you’d love Joe Manchin. He’s almost single-handedly holding back the Democratic Party’s agenda. Call it the Rafael Cruz fund.
Joe Manchin appeals to bipartisan hatred of corruption – his family is steeped in it – his daughter after claiming to graduate as a pharmacist got hired by corrupt company and her major work consisted of jacking up the costs of epi-pens; his wife just hired on as a lobbyist for some jake-leg outfit. If you don’t like Joe – you probably have a touch of honesty in you.
waste of money
This is exactly why we need a major alteration to the Constitution, but hands off the electoral college and Bill Of Rights. The USA citizen is getting a major fooking under the present situation and it must not continue.
the ‘citizen ” is programmed and brainwashed to believe the BS.
Chris,,true, but that may change quickly. 🙂
“But whether the Constitution really be one thing, or another, this much is certain – that it has either authorized such a government as we have had, or has been powerless to prevent it.” — Lysander Spooner
There have been many alterations to the Constitution. Why would one more suddenly make it “work?”
SERIOUS campaign finance reform is needed. Citizens United, and all that. Equating money with free speech, what a crock.
And eff the Electoral College. There’s zero reason why a citizen’s vote in Wyoming and North Dakota should count more than a citizen’s vote in Texas or California. Low population states are already WILDLY overrepresented in the Senate, and, as McConnell has proven, the Senate can basically neuter the House. The Electoral College then gives them an advantage in the Executive Branch, and between the Senate and the Executive, you get the federal Judiciary, as McConnell also demonstrated. The House is the only part of that equation where citizens are fairly represented.
Everyone in Congress who votes FOR this gets a gift from AIPAC.
BARF bag please!!!!!
But, of course. Those nasty little rockets that go wherever they go,like released balloons with air exiting, and, little balloons with “incendiary devices”, are such a hazard to the country with an army, navy, air force, precision guided missiles, and, THE BOMB.
So, so, scary…………………………….
So, $3.8 billion here, $735 million there, money sprinkled everywhere, all the more to bomb Syria, and, who knows which other country.
I love this country! Argue about money for our infrastructure, but give Israel billions. What a country!
If someone burns your home or farm,no doubt your attitude would be different.
And if someone bulldozed your home and treated you like “cockroaches” YOUR attitude might be different
Utterly nauseating and unacceptable. When will this shameful nonsense stop?
Why does the US tax payer have to finance the destruction of the Palestinians?
And how does Iron dome, a defensive weapon, destroy the Palestininans?
Mainly because the Palestinians, already defenseless, have nothing to deter the Israelis from using their precision guided missiles with impunity. Now if there were no Iron Dome, the playing field might be leveled so the “mowing of the grass” at least becomes more difficult. Or maybe we can supply the Palestinians an Iron Dome of their own so they too could defend themselves. But a level playing field is what you Israeli firsters fear the most.
It helps the Israelis attack with impunity. Iron Dome, snipers, etc, all defensive in nature, but it drastically changes the balance of power even further toward the oppressors.
You omit Palestinian intransigence at the Oslo talks-Arafat tells his people we will take what we can get now and take the rest later.
He omitted it because it wasn’t relevant to the conversation. That’s how you operate. When you can’t respond to what someone says you just whip out something irrelevant to deflect away from the point someone is trying to make.
Why?
Israel triggered the recent fighting they should deal with the consequences.
Every one is missing the point.
The Gaza dustup was very minor.
A few local and not at all effective rockets, nothing on a par with air launched missiles or 500 km ground launched missiles, and after few hours not only did the system let through half the rockets, in a couple of days they have run out of ammunition.
Hamas has no money and tiny resources but has cost Israel (well USA actually) $1bn. and shown that another few days and the iron dome is as effective as a tin foil hat.
If Hezbollah, Syria and another country whose name may not be mentioned in Israeli presence were to mount an attack, the Israeli defences would be overwhelmed in hours.
Not only is the mighty USA shown to be a paper tiger in Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria but the mighty Israel is shown to be even less of a force.
The minor aggression also showed that Israel will never face a force on the ground. It will fire rockets and artillery, but its’ troops will not face a fighting force stronger than 14 year old children and women wanting to go to work.
A highly experienced and tough fighting group such as Syrian and Hezbollah would love to take them on, especially in Israel itself. IDF will not last as long as the dome did.
Syrian attacked in 1973, and had to be rescued by the USSR.
Ever hear of Tricky Dick’s airlift?
Absolutely, and it was the USSR that saved Damascus from Israeli conquest.
And Nixon’s airlift saved Israel.
That is exactly what I am talking about.
In 73 Israel was fairly strong and had soldiers who had been in wars, now they don’t. Syria had no experience and no support. Now they have huge experience against Israel and USA and have the support of Hezbollah, Iran and Russia.
The game has changed and not to Israel’s advantage.
Israel is soft and exposed, Syria is hard, experienced and ten times the match for Israel.
Her only defence would be to resort to nuclear weapons in which case the response would be annihilating for Israel.
It is over. She lost. The Palestinians win.
Meanwhile the Israeli air force has seasoned its pilots over Syria, and made mincemeat of Russian missile systems. Hezbollah, while well trained are hate motivated, rather than motivated by love of country. The current air campaign is Syria is designed to keep Syria off balance;your Syrian heroes are very good at gassing their own civilians, but thats about it.
Not even you believe that BS.
Give over, the endless Hasbarra defence has crumbled. We have cellphones these days and instant world wide broadcast of your deeds.
Syria has given Israel the finger and Israel has to take it like a little cur.
Scared to enter Gaza, scared to enter Syria and look what happened last time you entered Lebanon kicked out like the interlopers that you are.
The reason that you wear ‘White Helmets’ is to show the world that you are little cowards. Willing only to fight children. You have only a few years (at most) according to Henry Kissinger and you will be destroyed.
America will have to pull the plug and you will be washed into the sewers where you belong.
Rave on,churlish one, I enjoy it!
“Not even you believe that BS.”
Yes, he does and that’s the sad thing.
you have become so tendentious that you ignore reality.
No, that would be you. As so many are pointing that out. Why do you think people use the word “hasbara” when replying to you?
No, that would be you. As so many are pointing that out. Why do you think people use the word “hasbara” when replying to you?
There would be no Isreal without the backing of the USA , IMO all Isrealis should be sent back to Europe their proper home .
Go over there and tell that to them, if you have the giblets for it.
Can he fight them on even terms? Or will the IDF be there to protect their squatting asses?
Go up to a person of a particular backround and use the N word, and you will get what you deserve. Same deal here, you fool.
Why would the Israelis get upset if he uses the N word?
fool
and that is the best retort you can think of?
Did your little play book not have any answers?
Ask your masters for a new copy, I am sure they will have something better than ‘fool’.
rave on. I enjoy it
stupid
That is one hellacious reach. He didn’t use any racist term. Telling someone to go back to Europe isn’t quite the same as to what your lame a$$ is trying to insinuate. You’ve outdone yourself.
The more obvious comparison than using the N word would be approaching an American of African descent (as opposed to a Palestinian of Jewish descent) and telling that person to go “back” to Africa.
Troll. Evicting people based on ethnicity is evil, regardless of who does it.
This wasn’t about eviction. This was about you comparing someone telling a European to go back to Europe to someone calling a person “the N word”. One hellacious reach!
Does that include the 21% of Israelis are Arabs, and the 70% of Israeli Jews who are Palestinians?
“70% of Israeli Jews who are Palestinians?” If true, they would probably bomb themselves.
If you are born in Palestine then you are a Palestinian, regardless of where your parents came from.
jake – As you surely know – if your parents are Jewish – it matters not where threy come from, you are a citizen of Israel; and if your parents are Arabic, you are little more than an animal in Israel.
Does that include the 21% of Israelis are Arabs, and the 70% of Israeli Jews who are Palestinians?
Does that include the 21% of Israelis are Arabs, and the 70% of Israeli Jews who are Palestinians?
They licked 5 arab armies in 1948, and three Arab armies in 1967.
Actually they did not, but enjoy your history. That is all you are, history.
China and Israel own our government not Russia Russia Russia!
Pentagram has to do what Master israHELL say’s , if not Master israHELL will attack america Again , as they did in 67 Killing a lot of sailors and that’s How Scarred US of Terror is of israHELL , bends over and Kiss israHELL’S Butt
So now we know that each Iron Dome missile costs at least $100,000. Best case, the IDF used 3,000 ID missiles for $300M and are asking for $1B to create a buffer for future needs. Of course the cost could be double that.
Well, in addition to a Cold War with Russia and China, Iran / Hamas can bankrupt the U.S. very efficiently.
