Israel Attacks, Destroys Syrian Army Post in Golan

Israel accuses Syria of violating their sovereignty

The Israeli Army has attacked and destroyed a Syrian observation post in the Golan Heights. Israel presented this as a sovereignty violation by Syria, accusing them of having the post west of the line dividing Golan between Syrian territory and Israeli occupied and annexed territory.

Almost no nation recognizes Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights, though President Trump said in 2019 that the United States does, making them the only nation offering such recognition.

Despite near-weekly attacks on Syria, this is a rare case for Israel, both in that their officials confirmed the attack and that Israel presented it as an attack on Syria, instead of it somehow being about attacking Iran or some other nation.

This time, Israel was just attacking Syria, and even if they view it as a sovereignty violation, virtually nobody in the world recognizes Israel’s territorial claims in this case.
