On Friday, the Wall Street Journal broke a story quoting unnamed diplomats who say that the IAEA found “radioactive traces” in Iran during its recent visits to two sites that they had to negotiate access to.
The Journal article offers very little detail, almost impossibly so, with the diplomats unsure what was found, where, etc beyond some very vague allegations. They still took this as possible evidence of secret nuclear activities at some point in the past.
The Israeli media dutifully took it and ran with it, and despite having no additional sources but the original article, declared it “evidence of possible nuclear weapons work.” That’s the worst-case scenario for superficial rumors from unidentified people, which is Israel’s take on everything Iran-themed.
That’s not the take of everybody, of course. Russian envoy Mikhail Ulyanov asked “who cares about traces of radioactive material left 20 years ago when Iran upon its own initiative stopped some experiments.”
Another story that comes from a state that isnt a signatory to the NPT or the IAEA, that says a member state cannot do what the treaty allows them to do. Just remember that Iran has a lawful nuclear power plant system, and dont forget that Rumsfeld and Cheney tried to sell the Iranians Nuclear Power plants, and their Experimental Nuclear Plant that makes medical isotopes was built by the US. Less can be said in relation to the Israeli Nuclear Program its initial plutonium was stolen from the United States, Israel is the ONLY country to sell nuclear devices to another country, in fact Netanyahu’s signature was on the bill of sale according to the South African Government that says it bought them from Israel, coincidentally it was also Netanyahu that is supposed to have arranged the theft and repatriation of Plutonium from the US to Israel in the first instance, which would explain why they think that Iran would do such things…….. Netanyahu did it himself!
1968: Iran signs NPT
1970: Iran ratifies NPT
You are correct.
IEAE inspections (recent) verify enrichment for medical and other peaceful use.
When was the last time the Israeli facilities were inspected???
Unnamed diplomats, very little detail, vague allegations, superficial rumours from unidentified people.
Sums it all up really.
WSJ has always been a Pentagon/Deep State mouthpiece and stenographer.
“The Israeli media took it and ran with it”….you mean, “took it back”
Khamenei “It is the mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to erase Israel from the map of the region” — Grand Ayatola Khamenei, Jan 2001. Thousands of Iranian chant “Death to Israel!” “Death to Israel!” is printed on Iranian missiles. Soleimani boasted of helping Hezbollah in the 2006 war against Israel. Ayatollah Ali Khamenei offered to help anyone willing to attack Israel. That’s war mongering!
Israel wants good relations with Iran. Israel wants to buy Iranian oil & Israel wants to sell Israeli goods to Iran.
Israel together with the US warmongers have been threatening to use nuclear bombs to wipe Iran from the map. They are the ones who have assassinated several Iranian scientists and military commanders, not the other way round. It is Iran that should feel more threatened.
Erase Israel from the map means to get rid of the apartheid government, not a bad suggestion.
Lie Street Journal…!
Ironically, each time the US hints at softening its stand towards Iran, a conservative publication or media outlet reveals A story of alleged past illicit nuke activities, aiming to dissuade, or discourage the possible rapprochement, which may come about!
Both parties just complement each other.
Trump really screwed it up, part with his ideas on wars, part with his poorly planned trade war, part his personality. But he dutifully played Iran card, Afghanistan is reversible. There was nothing Trump could do in Syria ir Iraq after 2017 palace coup that brought MBS to power, disempowered our trusted man, MBN, and ended money flow into Sunni extremism.
Now they are happily going back to role playing. Biden wants X, Republicans complain and want Y — to result in what they agreed to already. Now Biden is happily playing the role of benevolent progressive, to be dutifully “restrained by mean Republicans.
There is just one BiG problem. This playacting will not bridge the chasm in body politics, where nobody is listening, and everybody talking.
Center cannot hold. It is a classic. There is just one center-strengthening policy, and that is, end of Empire and sustainable domestic economy.
But neither party, their bosses, financial cartel, powerful special interests, and corporate media Kerberos — want to hear this. Thus, center will not hold. Will the anarchy be unleashed upon the world? There is a hope that Asian model of intertwined economies and interest in.stability will prevent a global catastrophe. As for our continent, who knows. Somebody may come along decent enough to be listened to by the divided nation.
They are lying.
I relate to what Hoyt and Bianca are saying. One of the bad things the USA inherited from England is the platitude of “precedence”. The explanation provided for it, is that there must be certainty in the law – even if what’s certain is certainly wrong. This is enhanced and augmented by expecting that quarreling persons forming Amoeba like majorities are going to solve this and therefore Aequitus est correctio justae legis qua parte deficit quod generatim lata est is equated with something distasteful depending on the flavor of prejudice, bigotry etc at hand, so the Great Compromise resolves in severity as the best way to preserve and protect certainty, which is why Americans hated Equity so much and by now are so ignorant of it it’s beyond their ability to comprehend what it is and whereas it used to be referred to as “law and equity” it’s not even known anymore as being part of the law. This is why the USA D-r support of Israel is unconditional. One of the 1st things all of these USA people that fancy themselves as Internationalists had to say regarding the so called end of the Cold War? O dear there’s no longer … the certainty
