Speaking at the US Institute for Peace, Centcom chief Gen. Kenneth McKenzie declared Iran to be the top priority for US military forces across the Middle East, claiming they are hampering the war on ISIS, despite ISIS barely existing at this point.
McKenzie’s narrative struggled on consistency, arguing that there was great progress being made against ISIS, but also arguing that planned troop cuts in Iraq are now linked to the “threat” posed by Iran. This is in spite of ISIS no longer being a real issue.
This could be a problem for the US, as Iraq has already made clear they won’t be hosting US troops just to confront Iran, something they’d recently emphasized when Trump said he wanted to stay to “watch” Iran.
ISIS is the only real excuse for staying in the Middle East, and the group’s defeat is making this tougher and tougher to make everything about ISIS. Absent other ideas, however, it’s clear they’ll keep trying.
These military folks are seriously tone deaf.
They’re out of touch with reality. Might be a thing with the military in general.
They have been obsessed with Iran since 1979
53, before that really. It just happened in 53.
What a farce, a warmonger holding a speech at the US Institute for Peace and making the case for more aggression.
It`s like an Arsonists holding a speech at the Society of Firefighters and making the case for more Arsons.
Remember 0bama, after 6 month in office receiving the the Nobel Peace price and at the Nobel Peace price ceremony, in his speech, he made the case for wars……….he then went from 2 wars to 7 wars, and joked about drone killings.
Obama should give that Peace Prize back. I never understood why he even got it.
Isis was caused by the US funding of Al Nusra front itself a named Change of Al Qaeda in Iraq, itself an Arm of Al Qaeda which came about from US funding to overthrow Afghanistan in the Reagan Years. Isis is a Sunni organization, the antithesis of an organization that Shiite Iran would support, The Saudis though that IS a different situation. Only the Brain dead would believe that Iran is in bed with ISIS, but of course that IS the Problem with many Americans who actually do not have a Clue!
Mostly..
Primarily, Sunni militants were paid during the “surge” in Iraq. Money and weapons, to either leave (mostly to Syria) or, stay and fight against whoever Patraeus wanted them to fight. Many Sunnis took the money and weapons to Kurdish Iraq, and Syria, to provide security for Sunni refugees, and I would guess, to create Sunni power structures there. Once Iraq was more docile, the US found those Sunni enclaves to be a convenient access to regime change in Syria.
Gen. Haf-track is right–Eyeran is hiding behind every door. Bibi also said the same thing.
The retarded general should go back to US and retire….!
How sad. How do you make proud military men act like morons is baffling. He must know better. Telling fibs to Americans to justify occupying Iraq. Staying where not wanted. And what for? It is clear by now that Gulf states are not takers — no amount of “Iran did it” made them bellicose. So, who wants Iran bad enough? US does? What for?
There is s muddle at the very heart of our Iranian policy. It cannot be explained to anybody. The good general is just grasping at straws.
What for? Well to keep the profits rolling in to the military-industrial complex and its shareholders, of course.

More lies from the world’s biggest warmonger. But gotta keep those profits rolling in for the military-industrial complex, don’t they, even though millions of US citizens are without healthcare, without jobs, and eating from food banks.
