Following near daily screeds against China, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is now laying out US hostility, and the goal of “changing” China as part of what is effectively a new Cold War, likening it to Cold War with the Soviet Union.
Saying that the US had changed Soviet behavior, Pompeo expressed confidence that they could change China as well, saying that the nations of the world have a duty to help the US “defend freedom.” He also warned that “our children’s children may be at the mercy of the Communist party.”
This seems to be harkening back to the language of the historic red scares, and the idea that China is a real threat to dominate the future is likely intended to scare Americans into supporting more hostility, as opposed to a serious policy reality.
Either way, it seems like the era of diplomacy with China, at least so far as the administration is concerned, is over, with Pompeo saying that the US can “never go back to engagement,” declaring China “a Marxist-Leninist regime” and following a “bankrupt totalitarian ideology.”
We knew Trump has no class especially the way he treats women, with absolutely no respect. So is it any wonder that this Pompeo mouth piece is his right had man?. It’s going to be pure pleasure to watch them go, there has not been a peaceful moment since they have been in office yet we have somehow survived, God only knows how. China was there when we needed them. And China will be there when we can get back to business after these “clowns” depart.
How is Trump’s treatment of women disrespectful? Ivana is rich. He marries the ones he gets pregnant. All his dalliances are consensual. Women are reputed to enjoy sex.
He takes them shopping. He paid two of his recent sex partners $160,000 each for their discretion. (Though Avenatti thought he could extort more, he failed and is now in jail.)
“Grab ’em by the pussy?” Is that your problem. Here’s a little clue:
Men like pussy, and women like men who like pussy. Some women. Most women. Straight women. Go figure.
Basically, you hate Trump.
Not gonna let this tripe pass…
1) “Ivana is rich” I guess in some peoples’ eyes, this has meaning
2)”he married who he gets pregnant, all his dalliances are consensual, women are reputed to enjoy sex” of course you know all this cause spanky told you so in his trumpU brochures.
3) the money and lies he used to pay off porn stars cannot be addressed until he is out of office. There is a line.
4) “grab em” says more about you, than the difference between a lout, and a gentleman.
5) “hate trump” naw, he went to a spoiled brat school, and was never given the proper amount of punches in the mouth so he could learn how to behave. Failure of class and money.
7)…you obviously respect lazy, ignorant, spiteful and lies. You just jealous it appears he will get away with it all. Did you ?
The pleasure of watching them go will be fleeting. Unless by some miraculous event the other option doesn’t win either.
Bless you. We can use a laugh!
No decent person should pay attention to what this gasbag or his boss says. That said, no denying both are perfect for their positions in government.
China is not even Communist anymore.
What it is seems very like what Trump and Pompeo want for the US. That is a state dominated oligarchy, in which citizens are obedient and watched, and the press not a problem.
And the democrats, and the intelligence services, and the wall street bankers.
Pompeo saying that the US can “never go back to engagement,” declaring China “a Marxist-Leninist regime” and following a “bankrupt totalitarian ideology.”
Is this the 50’s again? With trump as a retro-archie bunker from the 70’s and pompeo as McCarthy from the 50’s? And another thing, why are they all so emotionally infantile in their arguments?
Yes, they are infantile. Because they believe that US population is infantile. Based on social media behavior — it fits.
They have much bigger problem, by they I mean both parties. Back in 2008, China pulled the globe back from the spiraling financial catastrophe threatening to devour global productive output, “Engaging” China meant making it useful to our economic designs. But China learned from Japan’s example — when Plaza Accords put Japan’s development in a box, and finances in a dollar- directed feed-back loop.
After lengthy negotiations on trade, where the best of the best negotiators squared off with China — and came shot — time came for reassessment. Without Chinese economy amortizing the financial tsunami threatening Western economies, the crash, followed by a substantial reduction in standard of living is inevitable.
With China decidedly not willing to accept the role of subservient economy — the only option was nuclear. Hoping that threatening China with the unthinkable — severing relationship — would make it relent. And the cold war formula is appealing — a well oiled machine, with formulas for all occasions.
There is no downside to this — as far as the duopoly in power is concerned. The economic shift is coming with negative consequences. So, let us find someone to blame — China’s communism, China’s virus, name it. And when our economic dust settles — a continuation of policies to forge national consensus to be on permanent war footing. COVID failure (or success, depending), is another major motive for finding enemy — pronto!
It all hinges on the assumption that China will take it all, as there is nothing it can do about it. There are many ways China can asymmetrically address many challenges. Including militarily by “accidents”. The problem with escalating is always same — risk. I call this Iranian syndrome. When Iran declared intent to avenge General Soleimanj’s death — US accepted it meekly. Escallating is risky.
I’m more worried about the Marxist-Leninists here in the USA.
Like Pompeo. I agree
All 3 of them? Focus your needed fear on tangibles that
are Relevant , like the 6th mass extinction, war, negative climate change, etc…Or what 3.8 billion sent overseas to an apartheid regime does. Do you care?

It’s not the Marxist-Leninists that worry me, it’s the right-wing nut jobs like Pompeo and his boss.
Do Pompeo and his neo-con buddies realize that the rest of the world no longer believe anything that we say? That they no longer fear us? That they know we are insolvent? That the day’s of the almighty dollar as the reserve currency are numbered? That not only are we dependent upon Cina to buy our debt but that our very own Pentagon is dependent upon Cina for high tech components?
The Chinese government needs to do a better job of communicating to the English-speaking world what it’s really all about. Nobody understands their point-of-view, and it should be admitted, some of their actions and inactions indeed are troubling.
I am interested in throwing the light on this — I have not seen anything done by China that is untoward, in words or deeds, Not against anyone, especially towards US.
China has become an economic superpower. According to the US government that is “untoward” and must be prevented by any means possible, including war.
Definition of Enemy
“one whose voice must not be heard”
Notice how our media despite allegedly detesting the admin, nonetheless are boots and all into the New Cold War. When did you last hear or read a decent interview of a Chinese Russian or Venezuelan on our state friendly media?
The Chinese asking about the incessant whining noise.
Defend freedom? Who’s kidding who? We have seen extensive violations of civil liberties here in the USA in recent months. How can the USG pretend to stand for freedom?
Unless Trump is somehow “captive” to Pompeo — through Netanyahu, perhaps — this is a perfect moment to squash this monster. Boot the bloated POS out. Declare the Neocon foreign policy that he and Bolton before him have advocated and pursued, to have been a self-evident failure. In fact, a catastrophe. Declare it to have been the complete opposite of his goals of dialing down wasteful military adventurism and dangerous militaristic belligerence, that he — Trump — campaigned against in his run for the presidency.
Declare that it’s time for a change, and appoint Tulsi Gabbard as Secretary of State. Direct her to purge the Neocons from the State Department, organize a new “Trump Doctrine” to replace the “Wolfowitz Doctrine” (Google it), execute the withdrawal of troops from Iraq, Syria, and Afghanistan, and plan a staged drawdown of US military deployments around the world.
Trump booted Bolton for sabotaging Trump’s attempt at diplomacy with North Korea. Pompeo may be more subtle in his pandering to Trump, and in his execution of a homicidal and provocative US foreign policy, but he has easily exceeded Bolton’s level of pathology. So why is he still there?
(Epstein-acquired sex tapes of Trump in the Mossad library of sex tapes?)
Pompeo — and Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan — these are my “red lines” for supporting Trump in November.
(I can’t believe how bad the choice is for November. Biden is very nearly as bad as Hillary. Frankly, I can’t see him even making it to the convention. If Hillary shows up, will Turnip-Brain be “persuaded” to step aside?)
Interesting times.
Luckily, on a personal note, I’m prosperous and safely far, far away from the American shitshow.
Good luck to the rest of you.
Replace Pence with Gabbard. After the inauguration, Trump resigns to spend more time with his family, especially niece Mary, and we have Tulsi as president. She then appoints Justin Amash as SOS and Rand Paul as Secretary of Defense.
And they will be allowed to rule? This
is a corporate run state.
But the chicks have come home to roost. Our public school are under pressure, deliberately disadvantaged to succumb to privatization, they are overcrowded. And more children cannot speak English, even though born in this country.
The upshot? Not enough graduates from universities to meet needs in science and technology. Example? After realizing the dangers of off-shoring strategic manufacturing, both parties are trying to subsidize domestic production. Semiconductors are good example. Intel is the first one to say thanks but no thanks — chips manufacturing will go to Taiwan and South Korea. Why? No engineers to meet the demands of the industry. Retooling those foundries is expensive — yet other countries subsidize. All those can have back doors into circuits — compromising our security and digital economy. Where do we go from here?
Class size in the US has been going down, not up, for decades (and the number of personnel running the classes has been going up with increased use of teachers’ aides).
US students increasingly speak ONLY English. School districts in the US that need to teach in other languages have gone down by half since 1990, and when the language that has been a second American language for most of 200 years (Spanish) is removed from that equation, non-English instruction disappears almost completely.
College enrollment in the US is twice what it was 20 years ago.
Fake privatization of education in the US is lamentable — it should be the real thing — but it’s produced somewhat better results than the Prussian “turn out good unquestioning drones” model of the “public” schools.
The fact that Trump was elected to be President shows that the US education system is totally defunct.
No, they won’t. I was fantasizing.
Pompeo, number one in his class at West Point does not recognize the obvious: Imperial desires are killing this country from the inside out.
Except, I don’t believe there ever was a “country”, just an immense aggregate of self-seeking individual economic actors. And these days the Oligarchy, the actors that own the Gov’t are supra-national, with homes, yachts, planes, officesuites, bank accounts, and companies in multiple countries. And even now in some super exclusive conclaves are likely confabbing with their Chinese, Russian, Iranian, etc. co-equals, delivering dicta that travel down their chain of command to the Pompeos of the world.
China is about as Marxist as your local country club.
China’s not socialist in the sense of helping the weak and disadvantaged. But it is socialist, Marxist and communist, in some other senses. They genuinely believe in dialectical materialism, how the basis of production in society controls everything, as Marx taught. They believe in communalism, that the rights of the collective override the rights of the individual. And they genuinely believe in progressive change, aided by technology, to build a better world for the Chinese people. These are forms of socialism and communism with strong ideological precedents.
I’m an America myself although I was born in and now again live in Poland. I try not to be hostile toward the country which used to be my home, but it’s difficult after reading things like this. Then I remember that at their best America produced somebody as great as William James. Also, that from among the millions of Americans there must be a portion who are intelligent and civilised, but their opinions dont make into the media.
China only has to wait six months, and Pompeo will be gone, then the Adults will again be playing the game!
I doubt regime change in the USA will make a difference. This is the agenda of the deep state, not of the personalities in power.
This all to prevent China’s 2025 economic agenda. U.S. has printed too many dollars now and there is no going back.
US hostility will accelerate China’s technological self sufficiency rather than undermine it, as Chinese businesses seek to avoid dependency on US markets which they can’t rely on in the event of sanctions and other disruption to trade.
Pompouspeo.
Pompeo is making a grave miscalculation in likening the current crisis to the Cold War. Today, the Kremlin has no buffer zone, though still a massive nuclear arsenal, it can concede no more ground. Beijing cannot reverse the economic developments of the last forty years. Washington is on course for war with these two powers, not the “victory” of the old Cold War.

The US will get a big surprise of they decide to go to war with China. The US military can’t even find enough recruits because so many Americans are obese or have chronic diseases or criminal records.
I guess there always has to be an enemy to justify the trillion dollars a year that the US spends on “defense” while millions of their citizens go without healthcare and eat from food banks, and there isn’t enough money to test people for coronavirus.
