Venezuela Seeks Extradition of US Veteran Tied to Plot

Captured Americans charged with terrorism in failed incursion

With this week’s failed Venezuela incursion died to American company Silvercorp USA, the country’s chief prosecutor announced Friday that they are seeking Jordan Goudreau, Silvercorp’s founder, calling for his detention and extradition related to the plot.

Two Americans were already captured in the plot, 34-year-old Luke Denman and 41-year-old Airan Berry. The two are being charged with “terrorism, conspiracy, illicit trafficking of weapons of war, and criminal association.” They face 25-30 years in prison.

Denman was testifying about his involvement in the Venezuelan state media, saying the goal was to take over Caracas International Airport, kidnap President Maduro, and fly him to the US. US officials deny involvement in the scheme.

How 17 plotters were expected to take the airport, let alone capture the President is uncertain. Silvercorp is likely to continue to be targeted by Venezuela, as the company is funded by the opposition, and brags of its ties to the US government.
