The first official Iranian response to US allegations of Iranian boats being “dangerous and provocative,” came Friday from the Defense Ministry, who said US claims were baseless, and that it is the “illegal and aggressive” US presence in the area that is fueling insecurity.
It is certainly hard to deny that the US presence is fueling this whole matter. The US complaints surrounding Iran’s Navy routinely start with US naval operations off the Iranian coast, and Iran sending its boats out to keep an eye on the US forces.
The incidents never amount to any direct confrontation of the US Navy, but rather the US objecting to the boats getting sort of close. In ensuring their naval exercises are immediately off Iran’s territorial waters, it is all but certain Iran would investigate it, and the US would then be able to object.
So far nothing else has come of the incident, but the US is able to ensure tensions remain high by having such problems now and again. It is thus very fair for Iran to say that the US presence is really what is fueling this.
The US keeps goading the Iranian Lion until one day soon they will go too far and provoke an incident likely to end in war between these two nations.
Its disgusting that America thinks they are above ALL the norms of decent civilised behaviour and can act like a “bull in a china shop” with no
consequences..
Truly an evil empire. I look forward to their takedown.
iran with six paltry metropolitan areas and four power grids will be child’s play to defeat. we only need about 12 tomahawks to take out those grids without a single casualty on our side. we need to lob a couple more into northern tehran to take out the mullahs residences also.
I wonder what would happen if the Russians sent some of their navy ships to somewhere near the US – say Cuba?
What navy ships?? From what I saw the Iranians had off shore racer boats with a 50 cal. mounted on them and were very careful NOT to point the 50 cal. at the USA navy. Big deal.
Depending on the circumstances, the Russian ships might encounter mechanical difficulties and mysteriously sink, like a couple of their subs did during Cold War I.
they tried that once and it didn’t end well for them. we called their bluff and they ran back to hide behind their iron curtain which was still in place at that time. eventually we tore that down also.
Having ships “legally” in international waters has different meanings to countries you have imposed sanctions on, surrounded them with military assets and your president has threatened “obliteration” on multiple occasions. This has been going on for 40 years and follows 26 years of brutal rule by a leader of our choosing after helping overthrow their democratically elected leader. To say the US is fueling this would be stating the obvious.
“Illegal” is a nonsensical word here: in a world where the US invaded Iraq with absolutely not a hint of attack or danger, thus committing the supreme war crime per Nuremberg, does illegal mean anything? Right now, we are occupying a third of a country we are not at war with, Syria, with not a speck of legality.
Perhaps the man shoud have used the words stupid, counterproductive, dangerous, moronic, etc. instead?
IMMORAL is also a good word to use. Yes, when the government makes the laws, NOTHING they do is ever illegal.
The U.S. was in international waters. War-strutting is a little bit rude, but not really illegal.
It’s a heck of a lot more than “a little bit rude”.
The USS Vincennes shooting down Iran Flight 655 back in 1988, was a heck of a lot more than a little bit rude.
The U.S. Navy strutting in the Persian Gulf, is normal. Every now and then some IRGC speed boats zip out to run rings around them.
If Iran really wanted to send a harsh message, they’d test anti-ship missiles.
illegal? the u.s. is not subject to international law. we can enforce it but do not have to adhere to it. until someone tries to replace us at the #1 position of power in the world which we have held since 1945 we will continue our regime change program and invade or decimate anyone we want to.
Mmm, wonder if US militancy would consider it “dangerous and provocative” if I practiced some drunk skeet shooting on their front lawn….
ask someone who tried to jump that iron fence and did get over it. they are now serving a lengthy term in super max in colorado so they may not be available to comment.
The illegal and immoral presence of the greatest terrorist nation on earth (the US – well, its government at least) in the middle east, has caused misery and problems since the 1920s.
and we will continue to until the middle east is up to snuff. we intend with the help of the rothschilds and their generous supply of money to turn the middle east into a showplace with commerce, retail and recreation abounding.
The U.S. presence in the Gulf was perfectly legal.
The last time it wasn’t, the Iranians dealt with that, impounding the vessel and its crew.

You’d think the US has enough problems at home without continuing to stir up trouble in the Middle East. But I guess the US taking care of its own citizens might deprive the military-industrial complex of some of its obscene profits.
yes, we produce the best weaponry of anyone and need to use it and offer it for sale to entities we can trust. those profits are plowed back into our economy which benefits our citizens and our causes greatly.
