In a press conference from exile in Mexico City, former Bolivian President Evo Morales caled on the international community to intervene in Bolivia to stop what he called a “genocide” against indigenous people.
Morales was forced into exile earlier this month under military pressure, and has been replaced by an interim government that the military is backing. Claims of a coup have led to major protests, and the military has cracked down on Morales supporters.
There is a substantial racial component in this for some. Morales was the first indigenous president in the country’s history, and the new self-proclaimed interim president Jeanine Anez has a history of racist comments about indigenous people, saying that they don’t belong in Bolivia’s cities.
Anez’s past comments, combined with her conspicuously appointing a cabinet with no indigenous members, despite them being 40% of the population, has led many to conclude this is an overtly anti-indigenous government, while has led them to protest in large numbers.
Morales suggested that the UN and the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights should get involved to prevent massacres, though there is as yet no sign either intends to get involved at all. With the US loudly backing the post-Morales military rule, any involvement is likely to provoke anger from the Trump Administration.
They forced the only indigenous president in Bolivia’s history from office and annointed a fake blonde named Jeanine. You just can’t make this stuff up.
when you win an election with 47% and international monitors have found evidences of “clear manipulation” and “widespread data manipulation and altered and forged records” and the winner happen to represent an ethinic group that makes up 40% of the population
i think one can withhold their judgement on who the defenders of democracy are.
Maybe, problem is, with the US supporting the coup, all data supporting the coup becomes suspect. The US has earned this disbelief, one coup, or regime change at a time for a near century.
And the world answers Morales and followers with a deafening howl of, silence!
Oh there are some mouse squeaks far away and way way far from Bolivia, but they are not part of real world, their world is not even close enough to hear bullets let alone the cries of wounded and mourners of familys.
The mice are helpless to aid the victims because in their world they have to ask permission of the real world and that world cannot and does not give a fly’n pig what they “think” they want.
The real world has Macro to look after, the micro is theirs to create or eliminate, use or discard, ignore or deem small priveledges to those who aid them.
Morales is one of the micros that thought he could lead other micros out of their holes and now has joined thousands of dead and living micro martyrs while leaving their followers to suffer the consequences.
But the reality is more likely to find that his example will destroy the hopes and dream worlds of the masses of we micros.
Still though we know that someday one with more courage than we, will once more be found that dares and scares the Micros and hopes that this time more than enough micros will follow his example.
