Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) continued to rail against President Trump’s pullback from northeastern Syria, calling it a “grave strategic mistake” and calling on Trump to reverse course and go back into that part of Syria.
There are reasons to think that Trump reversing course is at least possible, not the least of which is Secretary of State Mike Pompeo explicitly saying Trump just does whatever is for the best, and if he’s convinced going back into the war is for the best, he’d do that.
Trump already did that once, announcing imminent withdrawal from Syria late last year, and scrapping that almost immediately once he realized the political opposition the move faced. Lawmakers are once again insisting uniformly that anything involving being less militarily engaged in Syria is unacceptable.
The reversal could be very difficult to even attempt at this point, with Turkey already in northern Syria. It would also be difficult to realign with the Kurds, particularly after Trump’s deeply critical comments about them.
McConnell is a stooge and a Swamp Rat,,you go fight over there,,bud! Trump 2020!!
Stooge for whom? I think AIPAC.
They don’t need Israeli influence to believe in this form of American imperialism.
Yes, they are one and the same.
We see there the power of the Israel Lobby in full fury. They demand and get action from Senators and Representatives of both parties.
The US role in Syria for a long time now has had not much to do with ISIS, and a lot more to do with permanent bases against Iran, to be available to Israel, and to be used in support of US war on Iran. It was to be observation, but far more, physically cutting off ground access to Lebanon, Jordan, and the Occupied Territories, and launching grounds for special operations, drones, and similar operations.
Most of all, it kept Syria wrecked, so that there was no viable nation state on Israel’s border in Golan, nor to object to further expansion. Villa in a wasteland, a Roman Peace as with Carthage.
It is dangerous — yes, full court press. Trump will be an example to those who disobey I am afraid.
“My experience with the president is that he makes decisions and then absorbs data and facts, evaluates situations,” Pompeo told Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo.
That explains a lot. Isn’t that ass backwards? Shouldn’t one absorb data and facts and THEN make a decision?
No, Trump knows that data and facts are always lined up to prevent hi from doing what he wants.
If he backpedals here — his base will be weakened to the point if staying home. He cannot appear weak, or turn this muddy.
He also can politically take advantage of Republican old guard not being on board. He already targeted Graham.
So, we will sea, just how potent are threats to him over this decision.
Then when does he get the real facts and data that allows him to make his decisions? And where/who does he get them from? Pompeo says he absorbs facts and data after making his decision and then evaluates situations. Do the “lined up” facts and data disappear and a new set of facts and data show up that Trump can trust? Or does he just stick to his original decision throughout?
I guess trumpsters believe facts come to trump as “revelation”. Perhaps spanky will cross a busy street using this methodology.
At this point, they want to have US soldier go fight Turkey, Syrian Army and Russia — to get back! And Kurds are no longer free to make their decisions. What do these politicians think — that Syria, Turkey and Russia are not identifying all Kurdish weapons storage, war gear of any type. That it is all static? If there is a threat if US coming back — Turkey and Iraq would swoop into the border areas to root out YPG and PKK. But if YPG plays games, this may happen anyway.
Do brainless politicians think that assets such as electric dam on Euphrates will not be protected by antimissile defense and other air protection.
The ISIS nonsense is hilarious. Ever since US darling Mohammed Bin Nayef was ousted in June 2017 — Wahhabi funds fir ISIS and other Islamists in Syria were cut by bad boy NBS . He even defunded Syrian diaspora body, High Negotiation Committee located in Riyadh.
So, any ISIS now would be on our dime. And it was — keeping ISIS women and children in Kurdish camps was our money. If any disappeared from camp, they will hightail to get in touch with relatives to get back home. There is NO mysterious ISIS command hiding in Arabian deserts. Let our politicians go visit those deserts for a day, to see if anyone can survive there without food and water.
This whole thing is a joke at our expense.
