Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif issued a statement Wednesday
criticizing the US for imposing new travel controls on Iranian diplomats
and their family members restricting their ability to travel around New
York City.
The restrictions, which apply to Zarif, 13 Iranian members of the
Permanent Mission to the UN, and all of their family members, allow them
to travel only between the UN, the Iranian mission, the ambassador’s
house, and the JFK airport. They are also given a very small area around
Queensboro Plaza to visit.
Zarif says it doesn’t really matter for him personally, because in his
rare visits to the US he only ever goes to those buildings anyhow. He
added that subjecting permanent mission diplomats and all their family
members, who like in New York City are in “basically inhuman conditions” by being stuck in tiny areas of the city.
This is a severe restriction compared to other nations the US doesn’t
like, as officials from North Korea, Syria, and Cuba are all given an
entire 25 miles radius around Manhattan to travel through. The UN has
expressed concerns about the US putting so much restriction on Iran.
The State Department dismissed the complaints, saying what they did is
consistent with their obligations under the 1947 agreement with the UN.
Zarif and Rouhani should be jailed for even thinking the US would keep its word. That would be out of character–for starters, just ask the First Americans
When we play the game, we play it to the hilt. We are a total embarrassment to the world. Maybe the moron in chief can have one of his KKK type rallies and they can chant “send them back”.
Just another example of the pettiness of US government officials.
I was just watching an interview last night with Carice van Houten, who plays Melisandre on Game of Thrones, who was complaining about the treatment one gets at Customs when traveling. She was asking, “Do these people enjoy keeping you waiting for two hours with no air conditioning?” She got so frustrated she was kicking pillars.
Give a monkey-ass human some power and he behaves like Idi Amin.
The Trump administration must have a level of paranoia that Mr. Zarif is more powerful than he is. They must be thinking he’s going to cooperate with Iran expats to initiate terror attacks against US interests.
Why bother with sending Rand Paul to give an impression the peace door is open?
Regime change and capturing Iran’s oil has been the regimen since Mossadegh’s overthrow in 1953.
Iran’s mistake may very well be having further discussions with Washington.
Agree, and see my comment above.
You got that right, Thomas Malthaus. Indeed, the DJT Administration must have a level of paranoia that Mr. Zarif’s more powerful than he. I know the 2 lunatics – Bonkers Bolton and Pompous Pompeo – have the highest level of paranoia and must be thinking DJT’s going to cooperate with Iran expats to initiate terror attacks on US interests.
So, why bother sending Rand Paul to give an impression the peace door’s open? Regime change and capturing Iran’s oil has been the regimen since Mossadegh’s ouster in 1953 .. And, Iran’s mistake may very well be having further Iran-US diplomatic discussions.
