Gen. Mark Milley, the Army Chief of Staff and nominee to become the new
chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff testified to the Senate Armed
Services Committee on Thursday, setting out his foreign policy
priorities.
Gen. Milley was keen to warn against any withdrawal from Afghanistan,
saying a “premature” withdrawal would be a “strategic mistake.” He did
not clarify how much longer beyond the 18 years currently in would not
be “premature.” He also argued the US should keep a “modest number” of
troops in Iraq and Syria indefinitely.
Interestingly, Milley was less upbeat about starting a war with Iran, saying it would have a “significant impact” on US military goals of confronting Russia and China. He added that he doesn’t think anyone is seriously considering invading Iran.
Milley urged the US to approach Iran “from the diplomatic angle,” while
saying he’d also like to see diplomacy to avoid conflicts with Russia
and China, warning China might “have the capability to defeat us by
mid-century.”
Why do we have to confront anybody? We need to bring all our troops home. Let foreigners kill each other to their heart’s content. US troops to the US border!
What is so @#$%&$# difficult about that?!
Don’t know, Ace.
Obviously apart from the death of three thousand innocents, one of the saddest things about 911 was that out of our multi trillion $ “defense” only a couple of jets could be scrambled, hours too late, to deal with the real threat when it really came. The rest of our “defense” was overseas.
Quite so. There were two fighter pilots who were told to suit up. One was a woman and she spoke of having to contemplate a physical collision with the plane over Pennsylvania, IIRC. There was not time to load any ammo.
I don’t know what NORAD planned for but I suspect it wasn’t an air attack launched from inside the country. Ideally, planner consider everything that possibly could happen but I think what actually happened would have been hard to contemplate and plan for.
It’s like open borders, our troops guarding foreign borders, off-shoring, mass third-world immigration, diversity, fawning over Muslims, and the “white privilege” and “racism” lies, among other things. Normal people simply cannot grasp the distilled malevolence that exists in our Treason Class and the hatred that that class has for us. How does anyone process that their own government actively seeks the destruction of the United States?

“We shouldn’t start a war with Iran because we will need every troop to fight Russia and/or China” ? Where do we get these morons?
“He added that he doesn’t think anyone is seriously considering invading Iran.”
Other than the national security adviser and the secretary of state, if they have their way.
Why should a general have ANY foreign policy priorities?!?
If he has not discussed the content of his remarks with President Trump and received Trump’s approval then Heaven help us.
“setting out his foreign policy priorities.”If these are not also the priorities of President Trump then there is something awfully wrong in Washington.
This is no the first time that a highly placed General has voiced opposition to attacking Iran. That has happened several times during the Bush administration. The Obama administration did not seriously threaten to attack Iran.
The ““modest number” of troops in Iraq and Syria indefinitely” are nothing but tripwires. How would you like your child to be a tripwire? This is the summit of immorality.
Hey, Milley: The 1950’s called. They want their foreign policy back, you ignorant troglodyte.
Keeping US troops in Afghanistan as the national security state wants is not about suppressing Salafi jihadists — the Taliban is already doing that. It’s about keeping Bagram Airbase and basing F-35’s there to ” project power” in the region. Bagram is the missing piece in War State’s worldwide base empire. But the Taliban will keep fighting (no matter what peace deal is made) until all foreign soldiers are off their ancient homelands. The six neighboring countries will support the Taliban in this cause. This endless war will continue indefinitely unless the US and other foreign troops leave. The Afghan people are the victims in this US power play.
No Iran until you finish your Afghanistan!
If the president thinks peace in Afghanistan is near, why appoint Milley to JCS?
I sense he’s too close to Bolton and Pompeo.
An honest answer would be: “It would be premature to withdraw from any war during my lifetime. I fully intend to line my pockets with money extorted from taxpayers regardless of the complete futility of said wars.”
