Speaking at a news conference on Monday, President Trump said that he
believes a nuclear deal with Iran is still possible, saying “I really believe that Iran would like to make a deal,” and that the only US demand is “no nuclear weapons.”
This seems to be a shift from Trump’s previous position on Iran, and his
insistence that the P5+1 nuclear deal, which he withdrew from last
year, was not good enough even though it offered major oversight to
ensure that Iran wasn’t doing anything related to nuclear arms.
More importantly, as Iranian FM Javad Zarif pointed out in a Tweet after Trump’s comments, Iran is not seeking nuclear arms in the first place. Iran has been reiterating that position for years, and the IAEA’s safeguards agreement appears to verify that.
Trump aimed to credit the possibility for a deal to his many sanctions
against Iran, though the combination of those sanctions, and threats to
attack, have convinced many in Iran that the US simply isn’t trustworthy
to negotiate with. Given how quickly the US reneged on the last deal,
it is understandable that Iran isn’t looking to rush into more pacts
with the US.
It is all about the ability to spy on Iran’s military establishments hence there will be no new agreement. Meanwhile the good vibes which the 5+1 agreement has created among the people of Iran is gone away. Dumb.
Trump only wants what he can take by force, even though what he is supposedly asking for was already agreed to and confirmed years ago. Trump is actually demanding Iran not fund any groups we don’t like, not build weapons of any kind that may be effective against us or our allies when we attack them, etc. Only countries with nuclear weapons are treated with any shred of respect by the US.
Once again, it’s irrelevant what Trump “wants” or “thinks he wants today, but maybe not tomorrow.” It’s simple bloviation by a President that isn’t actually running the country any more if he ever did.
The idea that all the US “wants” is “no nukes” is simply an absurdity. That’s the level of thought of a President that considers everything a real estate deal. Any “deal” that would be proffered to Iran would include a ton of conditions unconnected to their nuclear energy program, as already voiced by his own administration. So since when is it merely “no nukes”? Which renders his comment completely meaningless, like everything else he’s said since he became President.
Realize that it is a complete waste of time to analyze this idiot’s random comments. Only the US (and Israel’s) actions matter.
Have a feeling the clown will not serve out his term. His financial shenanigans will be his undoing.
Well, he’s not going to resign.
And the only way there would be a 2/3 vote in the Senate to convict if the House impeached would be if the GOP calculated politically that he would lose the 2020 presidential election if he remained in office.
As of now, he looks to be in pretty good shape to win re-election.
Even if that changes, the longer the House waits to impeach, the more the question for Senate Republicans becomes “would Pence have a better chance?”
Short of Trump stalking over to the Capitol and strangling Mitch McConnell on its front steps, conviction on impeachment will be predicated entirely on those questions and not on whatever he’s actually accused of doing and whether or not he did it.
The biggest problem with DJT is his flip-flopping. A POTUS who keeps flip-flopping on serious issues such as the Mideast can never be trusted. No wonder, the Europeans are uneasy being allied with an unstable US.
DJT has yet to dump Pompous Pompass and Bonkers Bolton, as the American public are getting fed up with him .. This means he could still lose re-election next year.
Congress hasn’t done anything yet, either. What it has to do is retake the authority to declare war, which it ceded in late 2001, following the 9/11 disaster. Only Congress has the authority to declare war. Period. It’s in the Constitution, under the Separation of Powers Clause. Congress has to tell DJT and his administration that it’s not going to allow the administration to “green light” the war on Hezbollah in Lebanon and/or war on Iran. If he goes ahead with those wars, his chances of re-election next year will simply fizzle out and he’ll wind up as a one-term president.
His biggest problem is his ego.
Lying sack of shite. All for 2020 and his willfully ignorant base. “Iran won’t give up nukes”. No azole, you wont. Make America Great Again, have a heart attack.
Iran can’t give up what it doesn’t have–just like Saddam could not prove he had no nukes.
The real question is not what US wants, but what it can realistically get. St present, the goodies are in the sale of military gear to the region eager to placate and buy peace day at a time, and acway to sneak in more troups wherever pissible. Iraq is target, but it is not working. From Iran — time will tell what can be squeezed. But region will be tense, no energy for development, infrastructure, etc. Silk riad in hold, as everyone from Turkey, across Levant, and down to Qatar, are chasing their tails, solving non-existent crisis. Strategy is chais, but its effects are wearing off.
As all the bearings are being lost, truth, basic reality — all sacrificed in the name of empire. But it is not for free.
