All the foreign policy news these days is heavily centered on the idea
that the United States is rapidly escalating tensions in the Middle East
based on some non-specific Iranian threat, and that a major war with
Iran is potentially about to break out.
That’s not just the story on the front page of papers, it’s also a major topic of discussion,
and in some cases alarm, among lawmakers and other top officials in
Washington D.C. There is also a hunger for more real information and
less idle speculation.
A handful of Congressional leaders were given some information Thursday in a classified briefing, though they all came out of that meeting refusing to talk about it. A second classified briefing for the entire House and Senate is said to be planned for next week.
There is a lot of concern about the possibility of the US blundering
into a war based on secret “threats.” Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-TX) is already sold on the idea after the briefing,
saying that he is convinced by the information he was shown, and that
there is “cause for greater concern” that Americans might be targeted by
Iran.
Other lawmakers compared what is happening to the “march to war” before the 2003 US invasion of
Iraq. They want a lot more specifics about what the US is doing, and
why, and have pushed the State Department to respond with specifics in
the next week.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) was a lot more specific in her message to the administration, noting that Congress has never authorized a war against Iran. Some senators have made similar comments in the past couple of days.
The administration hasn’t been very public in its approach to Congress
during this escalation of tensions, likely in keeping with President
Trump insisting that he has all the authority he needs as
commander-in-chief to carry out unilateral operations.
It is strange how Israel and the USA can threaten Iran almost daily for months if not years and then suddenly accuse them of being an “Imminent” threat.
All Iran is doing is preparing a defense.
We have to prepare now. The briefings mean it is likely to occur. This is a fully expected timeline to anyone who has researched Zionism.
Prepare for what?
To win a war for Israel, or to prevent it?
Actually, we probably can’t do either one. What is set to happen is to start and lose a war, where losing is defined as Iraq, Syria, Libya, Afghanistan, Somalia, Yemen.
What will happen to Israel then? Those so intent on this war think Israel can sail along on top of that roiling sea of trouble. In fact, they think Israel will be better off, the villa in a jungle idea, nobody able to challenge. Actually, the real challenge is the jungle itself, and it is likely to swallow them.
How? Afghanistan or Syria or Libya in the West Bank and Arab areas of Israel proper.
This is exactly how Tony Blair persuaded politicians in the UK to go to war in Iraq – secret meetings, “convincing” data, imminent threat.
It all turned out to be false, lies, fabrication, which resulted in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of people, millions more displaced, the country thrown into chaos from which it still has not recovered, and the subsequent arrival of Islamic State/Daesh.
All that’s needed now is another false-flag event like 9/11 to kick the whole thing into motion. Bolton will reach deep into his old PNAC bag of tricks and come up with something horrible. Watch and learn.
I am genuinely worried about how this will pan out, because if it does end in war, then the loss of life will put the Iraq war into the shade.
They’ve already tried a couple of events but they failed to provide exciting enough media fodder.
Tulsi Gabbard released this video yesterday:
Tulsi Gabbard’s 100% right on this, Skywalker; and she knows what she’s saying .. After all, she’s an Iraq War veteran. The only ones who want war with Iran are lunatics such as Israeli PM Bibzy Nutty&Yahoo, Saudi Arabian Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, and our own lunatics such as the Trotskyists, Bonkers Bolton and Pompous Pompass. All of these lunatics pose a real threat to the US, not Iran, and not Hezbollah in Lebanon.
POTUS Trump doesn’t want to start any war .. If he did, he’d lose the presidency in 2020. The American people are sick and tired of these unending wars of aggression that were started by the W administration and escalated by the Obama administration.
“After all, she’s an Iraq War veteran.”
How does that make her “100% right on this?” There are other Iraq war veterans who disagree with her. Whether she’s right or wrong has nothing whatsoever to do with her being a veteran.
Wait a minute! Netanyahu held a high level meeting to address the issue of possible negative consequences to Israel the to US Iran confrontation, and avoiding any collateral consequences. THEY FO NOT FEEL THAT IRAN PRESENTS ANY DANGER TO ISRAEL AT THIS TIME.
What? I thought they will be in the front of the charge, having their army support US effort that is being made chiefly on their behalf! Their concern for Iran’s nukes. Concern for Hezbolah?
Utterly Amazing.
Don’t be fooled, Bianca.
Netanyahu has been agitating for war against Iran for years But, the pretext will be that Iran started the war. Like the Gulf of Tonkin or the sinking of the Maine.
Stupid Trump may not intend to start a war. For almost 50 years Trump tried to achieve dominance by bullying and intimidation. But the narcissistic fool is surrounded by Ziocons who recognize that the rise of Iran is an existential threat to the Zionist colonization project. Netanyahu, Bolton, Pompeo, MBS, MBZ and their operatives are working hard to manufacture a false flag pretext they intend to use to convince Trump to go to war. But Trump is such a Zionist sympathizer that he probably won’t need much convincing.
The only hope of stopping a war is a mobilization that convinces Trump he will lose his political base if there is a war with Iran.
I am not fooled. The gall to actike an innocent bystander wortying about being hitt! Israel’s children need to be sent to the war, to set example that they care. Not have us spend money, energy and blood, for him acting comlketely ignorant! Cannot believe this!
You mean Mac Thornberry is convinced after a secret meeting with the same folks storing the pot for war? That’s enough for me, where’s my desert camo and pocket sized bible?
If Bolton and his clowns did the briefing, I’d be surprised if anyone would not be hysterically afraid.
Just read an article about the use of the word “blundering into” after the triggers have been pulled. MSM lingo.
NYT has a story which indicates that Trump has now ruled out a war with Iran. Interestingly, the story also says that Bolton ordered the navy strike force to move towards Iran. Is Bolton now the President of the U.S.?
Bolton had best watch his step. The President is jealous of his executive authority and doesn’t like it to be usurped.
A war would ruin whatever charm is left living through 125 degree days and copious fleas. To Hell with the whole lot of them. What a bunch of babies!
Again, the immediate real target is not Iran, but Hezbollah in Lebanon. All this talk is intended to justify a joint US-Israel attack on Lebanon. Only once Israel is assured that Hezbollah is degraded sufficiently that is no longer an effective actor against Israel in an Iran war can the latter war be started.
Expect a summer war either this year or next year with the US committing air strikes against Hezbollah in Lebanon using B-52s and possibly thousands of US ground troops to assist Israeli troops in rooting out a “terrorist group”. Trump hopes he will get a poll bump” in the 2020 elections by “saving Israel from terrorists.” Israel will foment some incident to claim it was attacked and Trump will rush to assist. Congress will approve it and so will the Pentagon.
As I just told Skywalker in my comment, Trump doesn’t want to start ANY war, not even one against Hezbollah in Lebanon. You may not realize what the consequences would be, but Skywalker, I, and other knowledgeable posters here surely do .. And so do Trump and the vast majority of European leaders.
As I said before, Trump’s not about to risk losing re-election in 2020 to start any war; and that includes the one the Zionist lunatics want to start in Lebanon. If they do, they’ll be on their own since they’re not allies of ours.
What you don’t get is the following:
I have a decent idea what the consequences will be, both economically and militarily and geopolitically.
And the problem is NOT what Trump “wants” – which you don’t know for sure and neither does anyone else not inside his head. The problem is 1) what he can be convinced of regardless of what he “wants”, and 2) if Israel starts a false flag operation and then attacks Lebanon, how likely is it that Trump, given his rabid support of Israel, will stay out of it after Israel starts getting pounded with hundreds of Hezbollah missiles every single day, and runs screaming to Washington for help – and the Zionist-owned Congress starts screaming at Trump to help – and the Pentagon starts screaming for payback for the Marine barracks bombing decades ago – and all his neocon advisers, his son-in-law, and his daughter start screaming for him to “do something” against a “terrorist group”, telling him he’ll get a “poll bump” in the elections if he “saves Israel”?
I submit there is no chance in hell Trump refuses to go to Israel’s aid.
And once that happens, the war develops on its own and whether Trump gets his “poll bump” or gets re-elected or not no longer matters to the neocons or Israel. They get their war.
If you think Israel is “not an ally of ours”, you’ve been living under a rock for the last, oh, fifty years or so. They may not legally be an ally, but they are treated as our most important ally.
Wake up.
Do you really believe a 73 year old man will start WW3 to get reelected? What could he possibly gain from another four years as president?
What did he gain from the first four years? As for what he’ll gain from being President at all, how about billions in real estate deals after he leaves office due to the appeal of doing deals with an ex-President?
That’s my point. He won’t gain anymore from four more years. All the more reason to get out of the White House and start cashing in. Why start WW3?
I simply can’t understand people who think the president runs the country. It’s just a good job with a golden parachute.
Then why isn’t he announcing he won’t run for a second term? That would end all the hassle he’s getting. But no, he ran for ego as well as the cash-out just like every other President. So he needs to prove he can win a second term.
I never said he runs the country. His advisers do and he just sits back and does what they say except for a few times when he feels like expressing his ego that he’s “the President” – so he fires one of them and immediately hires someone else just as bad. He couldn’t care less about actually running the country – he’s just playing at being President.
Yeah. We know how those “classified briefings” work. Heavily doctored information is provided to corrupt Congress ” leadership “. They, in turn, have those positions due to raising money for the party they are hatched from. Guess where that money comes from?
The “information” is kept secret from the public because it is obviously more related to bovine excrement than fact and is easy to prove to be such if made public.
The malignant all consuming virus that is the military industrial complex in action by the zionists, nothing else, aided and abetted by the presstitutes.
Three weeks ago, in Baghdad,
Iran Quds leaders met with their Iraq militias,
ordering them to prepare for proxy wars.

Is Iran doing things that are “provocative” from a reasonable US viewpoint? Yes.
Is the US doing things that are “provocative” from a reasonable Iranian viewpoint? Yes.
Who started it? The cycle goes back decades, so far that the question is meaningless. The cycle just is, a self sustaining thing.
So is it inevitable and/or necessary? No. Neither.
It could be settled. Both nations have interests that could be accommodated by the other. In the most short term view, that is not true. In the longer term view, that is absolutely true. What is necessary is to talk about the deeper issues, and not the specifics of individual provocations.
The US in particular is not interested in any compromise of any such interests. It is unspeakable, can’t even be named.
Nancy has finally said something sensible. Stop the nonsense-nobody wants war except Israel, Boltonarsol and Pompass. Iran is ready to react but of course is NOT a threat and never has been
The swamp demands wars……and more profits.
